"Looking at the two of you, there's really not much I can teach you." Uzui said as he watched you and Kanao conduct your exercises in almost near synchronicity.
"Really?" You asked, slightly stunned as you sat up and looked at the former sound hashira.
"Yep! I could already tell during our battle in Yoshiwara that you would go right to the top! And both Kocho's have very high praise for the two of you. You haven't disappointed at all!" He said, sounding extremely proud of the both of you.
You and Kanao had been there around two days now, and had been making fast progress and even helping a few of the other slayers that seemed to be struggling a little bit.
Many of them talked a lot about Tanjiro and how impressive he had been. He seemed to have inspired a lot of people who sounded like they were close to giving up.
The boy had always been a source of inspiration for all of the folk in your village, so it was comforting to hear that hadn't changed at all, even after all that the two of you had been through.
"I don't wish to hold either of you back. So how about we spar? You two against me." Uzui said, producing two wooden swords and tossing them on the ground next to you and Kanao.
"Of course. We can do that." You said, standing up and collecting your wooden weapon as Kanao did the same.
You were going to question if this was fair at all, given that Uzui had only one eye and one hand, but he was still a former hashira. And it didn't look like those ailments were hindering him at all.
In fact, he still looked like he was having the time of his life. You could only respect how even after being so close to death, he was still able to maintain the levels of 'flashiness' that he had before.
"Good to see you're both up for it! Just keep in mind, those demons out there aren't going to hold back on you, so don't hold back against me! Because I sure as hell ain't gonna make this easy!" He said.
"Got it." Kanao said quietly as she readied herself and gently nudged you.
"I have your back, Y/N. We must stay alert." She said.
"I know. I don't worry, I've got your back too." You replied, gaining a nod in response.
Uzui didn't tell you both when he was starting; he just sort of disappeared right in front of your very eyes, leaving little trace that he was ever there. He quite literally, disappeared into thin air without leaving much of a trail.
"I forgot he's also a shinobi isn't he? Him and his wives are. That means, he can get around much quieter than a normal slayer." You thought, your eyes darting around the place as you tried to find him.
"Deep breaths...concentrate..."
You kept taking deep breaths, trying to focus on feeling the slightest change or vibration in the air around you. It didn't take long for you to sense that something was coming.
As soon as the air around you started to feel different, you gently turned your body around and lifted your sword, blocking a swing from Uzui and pushing him backwards. His feet scraped along the ground until his came to a stop, the smile on his face only widening at the result.
"Ha ha! Quite brilliant! You and Kamado really have come a long way! Let's see just how long you can keep up!" He said, before promptly disappearing again.
"We can't keep staying still like this Kanao. Uzui was right when he said demons won't take things easy on us. Though we know this already. He's gonna keep coming at us, so we gotta take this to him." You said.
