Chapter 35: Upper Three: Akaza

"Wake up! Young Y/N! Wake up!!"

As you came to you heard a loud voice and felt your body being shaken gently. Your body hurt and ached in many places as you groaned and opened your eyes.

You were greeted by the bright smiling face of Rengoku, who's smile seemed to get even wider once he realised you were waking up.

"M-Mister....Rengoku....?" You groggily spoke as you tried to sit up, but he stopped you from doing so.

"Take it easy lad! You took quite a tumble when the train derailed!" He gently pat you on the shoulder. "You all did an amazing job! You defeated the demon!"

That made you smile. Albeit, it was only a small one as that was all you could muster right now.

"W-we did....? That's good...." You began but trailed off. Your head turned to the side, and now you got a good look at the aftermath of the battle.

"H-How.....how many people died?" You asked solemnly.

"None! All of the passengers on board are alive! Some are injured, but nothing that can't be fixed!" He said cheerfully.

You let that sink in for a moment. Not one of the passengers on that train had died. That made you feel even prouder.

Not only had you defeated the demon, you had also saved the lives of everyone on the train.

"....Tanjiro....where is he?" You broke your momentary silence and slowly sat up, starting to feel a little better.

"He is fine! He is keeping his wound closed with his breathing for now! The kakushi have been alerted and should be on their way now to take the injured back!" Rengoku announced as you nodded, feeling relieved.

"What about you Rengoku sir?" You asked, wanting to know how the flame hashira had got on while you were trying to slay the demon.

"I am perfectly okay! Thank you for asking!" He gave you a closed eye smile which made you smile as well, just as widely.

"Cool...." You were starting to relax a little but all of a sudden the air began to feel....different.

You were immediately put back on edge again and your eyes were darting around the place. Rengoku had noticed your state of alarm and was looking around as well.

"Is....there something else coming? Another....demon perhaps? Did we slay the right one?" You asked not really expecting any answers as you felt around for your sword.

It was laid in the dirt a few feet away from you. As you were about to start crawling over to get it, a large and loud explosion of dirt and rock from up ahead caught your attention.

A large dust cloud was quickly formed which made it unable to see what had happened. Once it cleared, stood in the middle of the crater that had formed was a man with short pink hair.

His eyes glowed yellow, which automatically told you that it was another demon.

"There is another demon....and here I thought we had completely our mission...." You grumbled and quickly crawled over to get your sword.

What you didn't realise was that the demon had rapidly closed down the distance and swung his fist to strike you. He would've been successful if it wasn't for Rengoku who came in and blocked the attack, cutting of the demons hand in the process.

The demon back flipped away to make some distance, his hand regenerating practically instantly.

"A hashira....how exciting this will be...." The demon spoke.

"Why did you got for a boy who is on the ground?! Who cannot defend himself properly! We have only just met, and I can already say that I do not like you!" Rengoku stated as he held his sword up with both of his hands.
