Chapter 28: A Watchful Eye

"Th-thank you....for understanding." You were back up on your feet now, your sword back tucked under your belt again.

"Of course! I'll always listen to what you have to say Y/N-Kun!" Shinobu replied before wrapping her arms around you. "I'm just....glad your safe to be honest..."

You blushed and wrapped your arms around her too. "I'm....sorry for making you worry. I came into the forest expecting to find a demon and...found friendly ones."

"Indeed....just please don't do that again. I think in the future, I'll make sure someone is with you if I ask you to do the night patrol." The insect hashira squeezed you a little tighter before letting go.

"Now then let's get back to the butterfly mansion before the sun comes up. We can't have our new friends burning in the sunlight can we?~" She giggled mischievously which made the two demons sweatdrop.

"Y-yeah. Let's go then." You quickly began walking on ahead with Shinobu just behind with the two demons.

After a little while, she stopped the two demons and made sure that you continued on walking.

"H-Huh?! W-what are you doing?! Y-you're not going to kill us right?!" Aria panicked.

"No no! I'm not going to harm you! But there is something I'd like to say...." Shinobu began, the aura around her becoming increasingly menacing as she inched closer to them.

"If you even leave a scratch on his body.....I will make sure that your deaths are long and excruciating. Are we clear?" She asked.

Both the demons nodded their heads and sweated profusely. This was enough for the insect hashira, who returned to her normal self within an instant.

"Lovely! Now keep up then! We are nearly there!" She said with a smile before starting to catch up to you.

Aria and Mukago merely exchanged nervous glances before following on.

Shinobu appeared beside you, which made you jump and her giggle at your reaction.

"P-Please Miss Shinobu....d-don't do that...." You say while calming yourself down.

"But why? Your reaction is always so adorable!" She giggled while you blushed and looked away.

"T-Tonight really is the night for teasing me, huh?" You chuckled and rubbed the back of your neck.

Shinobu slowly turned her head to face you, before reaching out and gently taking your hand in hers. You didn't object or say anything, and just let her hold onto your hand all the way back to the butterfly mansion.

"Okay! Now, there should be an empty room down at the end of the corridor to the right. It doesn't have any windows, so that eliminates the worry of the sun. Why don't you two get settled in there already, and we can sort everything out in the morning." Shinobu spoke to the two demons, who nodded their heads without any hesitation and quickly shuffled into the house without any questions.

"....did anything happen? They seem....terrified." You noted.

"Nothing you need to be worried about!" The young woman said before letting go of your hand.

"Alright....I'll take your word for it." You replied and began heading inside before Shinobu stopped you.

"Why don't you sit out here with me for a little while Y/N-Kun?" She asked.

"S-sure! I wouldn't mind that." You accepted and watched as she leapt onto the roof. Following her up there, you found her already sat down.

You sat down next to her and looked up to the sky. There wasn't a cloud in the sky so you could see all of the stars.
