Everything seemed to be normal today. You woke up, you were still in your house and you were still being called into the other room by your mother.

A smile spread across your face. Everything was still normal.

"Y/N darling! Come on and eat your breakfast! You have a busy day ahead of you!" Your mother called out from the other room, causing you to sit up and then stand up.

"Coming! Give me a minute!" Taking the time to get dressed, you slid the door open and stepped out of your room. Your mother was sat on the floor, a bright smile on her face.

"Morning darling! Did you sleep well?" She asked as you joined her.

"Yep! Sure did!" You smile as she gently ruffles your hair.

"Well that's good. You've got a busy day ahead!" You nod as you slowly ate your breakfast with her, enjoying every moment.

"Mother....." You had finished eating and had fallen silent for a few minutes before looking up at her.

"Yes honey? Is there something wrong?" She tilted her head, still smiling at you.

"....do you think father is ever coming home?" There was sadness laced in your voice. You had been on your own with your mother for some time now.

Your father had joined the Demon Slayer corps as a swordsman and had left home around a few years ago now. The thing was, you could never tell anyone.

He always said that the corps was a secret organisation that wasn't approved by the government. So, everything to do with the corps had to remain confidential.

"I-I can't say honey....he has to be very committed to being a demon slayer. You know this. But I can understand why you're asking....I miss him too...." She wrapped her arms around you and held you tightly. "At least I have you though...."

You smiled and hugged her back. "Yeah....we have each other....." Burying your head in her shoulder, you let out a few tears.

There soon came a commotion outside of the house, with multiple people talking at the same time. You stood up and made your way to the front door, opening it slightly and peeking your head out.

You smiled when you saw who all the people were trying to talk to.

"Tanjiro!" You called out to the young boy who was wearing his traditional green and black checkered haori.

The boy turned his head in your direction and smiled as he ran past everyone and leapt at you, bringing you into a tight hug.

"Heh! How you doing?" You smile and gently ruffle his hair.

"Good! It's wonderful to see you again!" His smile was wide and warm, a bright sparkle in his eyes.

"Yeah, it's wonderful to see you again too!" Being slightly older than him, you always thought of him as a younger brother.

He didn't mind of course. You were both best friends, and he did everything possible to always make you feel like a part of his family whenever you visited his house up on the mountain.

"I see you've brought down a whole load of charcoal! You work really hard. Don't tire yourself out." You smile and pat his head.

"You don't need to worry! I can handle myself! Besides, as long as I'm getting money and helping my family, that's all that matters!" His smile got even wider as he let go of you.

You really admired how he could be so optimistic and kind to everyone he met. No matter who they might be. He always tried to find the good in them.

"But I would appreciate your help if you're gonna offer!" He said as you chuckled and ruffled his hair.
