Chapter 56: The Mechanical Doll

The next morning was a beautiful one, the air was fresh and the sun was shining down with the odd cloud dotted in the sky.

"Looks really nice out there today." You remarked while looking out of the open window, which allowed a slight breeze to come into the room.

"Yeah it is!" Tanjiro agreed as he chowed down on his breakfast.

You had already finished yours as you were starving, despite the amount of food you had consumed the night before.

A slight creaking sound was then heard as you glanced over to see the door to Nezuko's box slowly opening. In a flash, she emerged and went under the table you and Tanjiro were knelt beside.

"Morning Nezuko. You alright there?" You say while leaning down and peaking under the table.

"Mmm!! Hmm!!!" She went, giving you a close eyed smile as she did.

"Good! Me and Tanjiro are gonna be looking for that secret weapon Miss Kanroji told us about last night! You wanna come with us?" You sort of already knew the answer to that question, but decided to ask it anyway.

"Mmm!!" She exclaimed and quickly popped back up from under the table, latching herself onto you.

She nuzzled herself gently into your side, making you chuckle.

"Glad to hear it!" You say while patting her head, an action that she thoroughly appreciated.

After Tanjiro had finished eating, the three of you headed out to the edges of the village in search of this secret weapon that you had been told about.

"Wonder where it could be? The area is huge! This may take a while." You said as you walked up a path, Tanjiro alongside you.

"Well, it's a good thing that we have an extended stay then! Plus it's a nice change of pace compared to fighting demons." He said, turning to you and smiling brightly.

"Yeah....it is actually! A nice change of pace." You agreed and smiled as well, moving your shoulder slightly.

"How does it feel now? Any better?" Tanjiro asked.

"It's getting better. The hot springs last night really did help a lot." You said.

It did still hurt a little which wasn't surprising. The amount of force that Gyutaro put in the throw was extraordinary. So much so, you fell off the roof of the house.

You were surprised that you even woke up after your fight with him. The combination of fatigue, poison and large wounds in your shoulder and leg was a lot for one person to handle.

But you did, and that's all that mattered to you.

"Y/N? Everything alright?" Tanjiro gently tapped you on the shoulder which broke you out of your thoughts.

"Huh? Yeah I'm alright. Was just thinking is all." You said, looking up the path ahead of you.

It led into a small wooded area which you soon found yourselves in. After walking for a little longer, you stopped and gently nudged Tanjiro.

"Hey can you smell anything? It would help if we had a better idea if there is even anything in the area." You said to him, his eyes lighting up a little.

"That's a good point! Hold on." He said, closing his eyes.

He inhaled deeply through his nose and his eyes pinged open.

"This way! Come on." He took your hand and led you on through the woods. Trusting his judgement, you let him do so.

Eventually, you came to a step at the edge of the tree line. Beyond it was a clearing and from what you could hear, there were people there.
