Chapter 17: Lower Five: Rui

The attacks came fast, and you found yourself having to move at high speeds. Not only that, the impact of the webs were quite hard.

"This guy certainly is the real deal!" You thought as you blocked another web, sending you backwards a little.

"Y/N! This demon is one of the twelve kizuki! He is the main one in this forest! If we kill him, then we might be able to get some blood back to Miss Tamayo!" Tanjiro exclaimed.

That was all you needed to hear. This was your chance to make up for your mistakes from earlier on. All you had to do was keep your concentration and not let your mind be led astray.

"I was complacent before. For a good reason, but I can't be this time...this is one of the twelve kizuki! This means more!" You gripped your sword and lunged forward.

"Total concentration...water breathing....seventh form: Drop Ripple Thrust!!!!!"

You lunge came really close to stabbing Rui, but he managed to move at the last second. Only suffering a small scratch on his skin, which healed almost instantly.

"Hm. Impressive. You were very quick there. But not quick enough." He commented as you held his fist out so you collided into it as you were stilling flying past him.

It hit you directly in the ribs and you could feel a couple of them break. Coughing up blood, you fell onto the ground in a massive heap.

"Y/N!!!" Tanjiro immediately jumped in to defend you as Rui took the chance to fling more webs at you to try and slice you.

"Th-thanks...." You said while coughing up more blood as Tanjiro helped you back onto your feet.

"Come on! We might have a chance here! Don't give up!!!" He cheered before resuming his attacks.

You soon joined him, even though your broken ribs proved to be quite the obstacle. This had been something you spent so much time on in training.

There would be times that you would need to fight on through your injures. You were only human and you couldn't regenerate like a demon could.

That was the main disadvantage but it was what made killing demon all the more satisfying. Being able to beat something that has supernatural abilities while only being human, was something to be proud of.

And that's what you wanted to achieve here. You fought Rui with everything you had. Throwing your all into it, using all the breathing techniques to attack, block, dodge and make your landings softer.

Still, you were unable to land a hit on him. At one point, when he tried to cut the threads, Tanjiro's blade snapped into pieces.

Witnessing this, made you automatically back up and rethink how you went about this.

"Those threads are getting tougher! It's even snapped Tanjiro's blade! I need to be careful that it doesn't break mine too!" You had to dodge a fist that was closing in on you, only doing so narrowly once you felt the slight change in the feeling of the air.

"Huh. Impressive. You've been using a lot of your energy, and still have very fast reflexes. Consider me impressed." He smiled slightly before trying to kick you, which you managed to dodge too.

Rui smirked and chuckled as he stopped for a moment. "I can see what you both are aiming for. It is pretty obvious after all." He held his arms out. "You're both trying to cut my neck. Well....why not have a shot?"

"This is a definite trick to get into our heads! He's cunning!" You stood there, not falling for whatever he was planning.

Tanjiro however was closest and despite having the broken sword, swung in to try and decapitate him. The blade hit his neck, but it was rock solid and would not pass through it.
