The trek to Uzui's was long, but enjoyable since you had the company of Kanao. Although she was still rather quiet, there were moments where she struck up conversation with you. Mainly about training and demon slaying, but you really didn't mind at all.

You knew that she was making an effort to try and interact with you now that the two of you were by yourselves and had a long walk ahead.

Even then, the moments of silence that would occur were also enjoyable. Both of you could appreciate the world around you and mentally prepare yourselves for what was to come.

"I do wonder how Uzui has gotten on after the whole business in the Entertainment District. He lost an arm and an eye after all." You said.

"But fair enough that he's decided to help out with hashira training. I thought he'd want to enjoy his retirement with his wives." You said.

Kanao didn't respond with words and just nodded along as you spoke, happy just to hear you speak.

It remained like this until Uzui's grounds started to come into view. The first thing you could hear was the sound of him yelling and a group of slayers partaking in an exercise.

As you got a better view of the area, you saw them all doing sit-ups in almost perfect unison. You didn't know how long any of them had been doing them, but you could tell that they were getting a little tired.

"THAT'S IT!!! KEEP GOING!!! BUILD YOUR STAMINA!!! IT'S THE ONLY WAY YOU'LL BE ABLE TO KEEP UP!!!" Uzui barked.

From where you were, you could tell that he was enjoying this a lot. He had a wooden sword slung over his shoulder and was crouched on top of a rock.

"Certainly has enough energy..." You said as you and Kanao weaved your way through the scores of demon slayers.

"Ah! Y/N!"

You heard Uzui call your name, and looked up at him. He got up off the rock and walked in your direction, meeting you and Kanao half way.

"Mister Uzui! It's been a while! I see you've healed well!" You said.

"I have! An arm and an eye lost, and yet not the slightest bit of flashiness lost!" He beamed, grinning widely and he let out a chuckle.

"That's pretty evident." You said.

"Indeed! And I have to say, you are looking rather flashy yourself, Y/N! Especially after the injuries you sustained!" Uzui said.

"Thank you Mister Uzui! It...took a very long time to recover fully, but I received the best treatment possible!" You said.

"Tanjiro did mention you encountered more upper moons while you were at the swordsmiths village! How I wish I was still able to take part in active duty!" He said, his voice had an undertone of jealousy to it.

"We did. And we killed them this time. Daki and Gyutaro were special cases I guess." You said.

"How have you managed to cope with all those demons? I'm surprised they haven't caused you any trouble!" Uzui said.

"I think the promise of trying to turn them back into humans has given them hope. It's taken time, but everyone at the mansion has started to accept their presence. I'm the only one who really interacts with the demons, and that's probably for the best." You said.

"Best to keep it that way. You're responsible enough, so it's clear why the faith has been put into you." Uzui said.

"Thank you Mister Uzui. I don't plan on letting anyone down." You replied, filled with determination.

Uzui nodded and turned to Kanao who had stayed silent until this point. When she noticed his gaze on her, she merely bowed to show her respect.

"You've met Kanao before right?" You asked.
