Chapter 18: Aftermath

"But why?! Why can't I come and join you Mother!? I want to be with you again...."

You were sat on your knees in front of your Mother, who was sat on hers too. Her hand gently resting in your hair.

"I know my sweetheart....I long for you to be with me again too...."

She smiled and rubbed your head.

"Th-then why can't I come to the light as well?!"

You were tearing up as she cupped one of your cheeks with her free hand.

"Because my dear....you still have so much to live for...Tanjiro still needs you. And Nezuko!"

The tears were free falling down your face now.

"I-I could hardly hold my own in that fight! He had to bail me out more than once! I-I feel like I got in his way...."

Your mother was quick to hush you and brought you closer to her. The warmth of her embrace put you in a state of utter bliss.

"You and me both know that Tanjiro loves you too much to think of you as an obstacle! You have always been the bigger brother that he needs when it gets tough....you can't stop being there for him...."

You looked into your mothers eyes and felt yourself relax. She gently stroked your cheek and laid her forehead up against yours.

"I-I only want to avenge you Mother....I-I want to make sure that the demon who did this to you does not get away with it!"

The rage bubbled up inside of you as you gritted your teeth. The only thing that calmed you down was your Mother's gentle humming.

"Hush now honeybun.....no matter what, I will never blame you for what happened. I will always be so proud of you, no matter what you do."

She gently laid her fingers under your chin and smiled.

"I was truly blessed to have a child like you. A human being who still had the heart to take pity on one that was so scared and yet was the very thing he swore he would destroy. You saw past that demon's exterior and saw that on the inside, she still had good in her."

You were still unsure about all that and it showed on your face. Nevertheless, your Mother was still full of praise.

"Th-thank you Mother....."

She brought your head into her lap and ran her fingers down your cheeks.

"Go now sweetheart. Return to your friends....do me proud...."

You closed your eyes and everything went white.

So much so that when you opened your eyes and tried lifting your arm so you could rub them, you let out a sharp cry of pain.

"W-what was that?!"

You heard three hurried sets of footsteps and then a sliding door open. Your vision was still blurry and you couldn't tell what was going on.

"E-Excuse me Mister! A-Are you okay?!" A high pitched voice asked as a face popped up in front of you.

"H-Huh?! W-what....what's going on?!" You began to panic slightly, which made the three girls panic a little too.
