Chapter 16: A Promise

"D-Do I seriously have to be strung up like this?" You asked while you had been tied to a tree by the demons spider webs.

"Well of course you do! I don't want you running off or trying to kill me now do I?" She chuckled and gently stroked your cheek with her hand. "Now that I get a better look at you....you are quite the cute human aren't you?~"

You could feel your cheeks heat up as you tried to move your face away, but to no avail. There was no room to move at all.

"There's no need to be so shy human....tell me your name." She smiled widely as you gulped and opened your mouth to speak.

"Y-Y/N...." You stuttered, still mentally cursing yourself for falling into this situation.

"What a beautiful name~..." She chuckled again and felt a tugging on the strings she was still holding onto. "Oh! I almost forgot about the other slayers that are here....they are quite pesky and are starting to get on my nerves." She went into a state of thought for a moment before her eyes lit up and she came to a conclusion.

"Your plan was to split up and take me out wasn't it? They were the distraction while you came from behind and sliced my head off! Very clever!~" She giggled and snapped the strings. "Let's make them believe that you've already finished your task....if I stop controlling my dolls, then they'll assume that I am dead!"

"Th-they'll still come looking for me though!" You retorted.

"You really think so? I wouldn't live in hope....after all, the rest of my family still live in this forest! They'll have their hands full again soon enough!" She brought herself closer to you, her smile growing.

"Now where were we? Ah yes! Many humans have come through this forest, none of them as cute as you though!~" She continued to stroke your cheek as you remained unable to move. "Not only that, but I can tell you have a kind heart. You easily could've killed me, and yet you didn't!"

"....." You kept your mouth shut this time, not wanting to reply.

"Awww come on now.....you can't have already run out of words to say! I want to know more about this delightful little human I've managed to ensnare~...." She licked her lips.

"W-why? Y-you have the chance to kill me here and now? W-why are you hoarding me like this?" You could tell that saying nothing would get you nowhere and that she would continue to pester you until you answered.

"Because maybe Rui will allow you to join our family! Once the other demon slayers have been killed, we can all live together in this forest as one big happy family! Imagine what you could do as a demon! These human bodies are so very weak, I feel sorry for you." She ran her hands gently down your body.

"I-I'll never become a demon!" You spat out as she chuckled again.

"I don't think you'll have much of a choice sweetheart~...." She cooed and rested her forehead against yours.

You felt utterly deflated. All of that training under Urokodaki. Your perseverance to drag yourself back up again when you were down, all seemed like it was worth nothing if you were just going to fall victim to a demon here.

"W-why were you scared? I never really thought a demon could be so scared." You asked her. She faltered for a moment before replying.

"Why does that matter to you?" She said, cocking her head sideways and raising an eyebrow.

"I noticed it before too....you were rambling while controlling the threads. You seemed....to be driven by your fear." You could see the look in her eyes changing again as she opened her mouth, but no words came out.
