Evan Buckley is no stranger to trauma. It's been almost as constant in his life as the sun rising in the morning. When he was younger, he learned that the only way his parents would show him any attention was if he was hurt. This started a year long series of him putting his life at risk. He bought a motorcycle and crashed his motorcycle. He jumped off unbelievable heights. He did anything he could to injure himself, wanting his parents to see him.

Unfortunately, that didn't necessarily stop as he grew up. He has had numerous-rather random-careers before he fell on his true passion, a fire fighter. His captain, Bobby Nash, quickly became a father figure to him-a proper father figure. Bobby has never been afraid to call Buck out on his stupid decisions, but in a kind and caring way. Bobby's wife, Athena, has become a mother figure to him. She always looks out for him, even when she wants to strangle him. Howard "Chimney" Han is like a brother to Buck for more than one reason. He is dating Buck's sister, and the father of Buck's niece. Henrietta "Hen" Wilson is like his sister. He goes to her for almost everything-the things he can't go to Eddie for. Ravi Panikkar is like Buck's younger brother. Edmundo Diaz is by far Buck's favorite team member. He and Buck have been together for six or so months, not even surprising his chosen family when they came out. At this point, everyone had either figured it out or wanted them together.

All of them notice how Buck will put his life at risk any chance he got. At least now, he does it in the hopes of saving someone. Then again, some of his traumas come from times when he didn't even put himself in that position. When he choked on the bread, that was an unforeseen event. He still claims it to be the stupidest way he nearly died, which is saying something. When the firetruck landed on him, that was out of his control. He considered that his worst injury and trauma. When he and Christopher was in the tsunami, that wasn't on him. That was Mother Nature hating him. The hardest part about that for Buck was when he couldn't find Christopher. When he was taken hostage, he was more worried about Eddie than himself. All of these events-however traumatic-were nothing compared to Buck's latest one. When he was struck by lightning, he absolutely terrified both of his families. Hell, he terrified himself when he saw his body in that bed. Despite his years of pushing his trauma responses aside and sweeping them under the rug, this time it seems impossible. Every flash of light makes his entire body freeze up. He thought that would be the worst response he could have, until now.

Buck is laying on his bed lazily. Eddie is supposed to be coming over for the night since Christopher is at a sleepover after school. Buck is laying with his arm bent behind his head as he stares at the ceiling. The sun has just set when it happens, something Buck had yet to think about. A crack of thunder is heard, making Buck jump. He sits up, now alert of his surroundings. Suddenly, his darkened room is lit up as lightning strikes. He lets out a small shriek as he falls from his bed onto the floor, curling into the fetal position.

"Evan!" Margaret shouts as she runs up the stairs with Philip right behind her.

They quickly get on the floor next to their son with worried expressions. They both try to speak to him, but his breathing is ragged and his ears are covered as he loudly wails.

"I'm calling Eddie," Margaret says as she grabs Buck's phone out.

"Hey, Buck, I'm about to leave," Eddie says as he answers.

"Not Buck," Margaret says, "he's freaking out from the lightning."

"I'll be right there. Put the phone next to his ear on speaker," Eddie says, concern evident in his voice.

"Okay, okay," the worried mother does as told, grabbing Philip's hand tightly.

"Hey, Buck," Eddie starts with a calm voice, "I'm on my way, okay? I will be there very soon, but you need to take deep and slow breaths for me. I know it's hard, baby. I know it hurts, but you need to breathe."

Buck closes his eyes tightly as he tries to. Eddie begins to take slow, deep, breaths to assist his boyfriend. By the time he reaches the apartment, Buck's breaths are slower, along with his heartbeat. He rushes up the stairs after he ends the call, dropping to the floor. Margaret and Philip decide to give the two some privacy and go out for a coffee-decaf, of course. Eddie pulls Buck's head onto his lap, slipping his fingers through his boyfriend's hair.

"It's okay, babe. I'm here, and you're safe. The lightning can't and won't touch you. You're here, in your loft, with me," Eddie says as he sees Buck open his eyes for the first time since he arrived, "I've got you."

"It was like it happened all over again," Buck says softly.

"I know, mi amor. I know, but it's not. It's in the past. You'll be able to move on. It won't be easy, I know, but you will. I will be right here with you. Everyone will be standing with you."

"I love you, Edmundo Diaz," Buck says softly.

"I love you, Evan Buckley," Eddie responds.

Buck smiles and pulls Eddie's head down to connect their lips. They smile at one another as they pull away. Both of them stand and climb into the bed and pull the blanket over their bodies after Eddie changes into a pair of sweats, opting to go shirtless. Buck moves to curl up into Eddie's side. He lays his head on his boyfriend's chest with a content sigh. That's how they fall asleep that night. Their legs tangled under the sheets, arms around each other, and smiles on their faces. When Margaret and Philip walk up to check on them, they may or may not have taken a few pictures.
