•Title: "Damn you"

•Requester:

•Warnings: Uh, fire. Complications from said fire

•Inspiration: I just randomly got the idea. Also, Harry's reaction to Sirius' death.

•Type: angsty fluff

A/N: Well... Sorry in advance. Also, sorry for being so unpredictable. I live in America... Haven't had much inspiration since November. I do want to say, however, I am thankful the Palisades and other fires have died down. I am so sorry for everyone who lost loved ones, pets, their homes, etc. It is a pain I hope I never have to imagine. My heart also goes out to the loved ones of the souls lost in the American Airlines flight that crashed in DC. There have been many more tragedies lately, and my heart goes out to all impacted.

And please, if you're a transgender individual in America, please hold on. I know our President is trying to erase you, but I see you. You exist. I just hope you know that you have worth. Your presence in this world has an impact. Please, please hold on. Please.

The engine pulls up to the scene, a single-story home up in flames. Bobby gets out of the vehicle and immediately turns to the team.

"Okay, Eddie, Ravi, you two are on rescue. Buck, you help Hen and Chim get everyone to triage," Bobby says as he walks over to the other team that is arriving. The 118 team separates. Hen, Chimney, and Buck walk over to where some people already were. The fire started from a barbecue, so it put more lives at risk than expected.

Buck hears his name be called and turns to see Ravi walking towards the street with a young boy, Buck assumes he's 14, in his arms. Buck rushes over and takes the boy in his arms. He rushes back to where they had set up the triage and gently lays him down before checking his vitals. Hen comes over when he calls her to help him out. Buck glances around at the surroundings. It's a neighborhood that he expects to be calm on a normal day, with kids riding their bikes up and down the block. The sun is shining, but the black smoke from the fire takes away from the clearness of the day.

"Cap, we have an issue," comes over the radio, earning the attention from the rest of the 118.

"What's the issue, Eddie?"

"The roof is weakening. Fast."

"Get out of there," Bobby says before he begins to pace, "MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY. This is your IC. I am calling an immediate evacuation. I repeat, all fire personnel must evacuate the building."

"Cap, there's still a kid in here," Eddie says.

"Diaz, this is a direct order," Bobby says.

"Hen, are you good?" Buck questions as he sees Ravi leave the building.

"Yeah, I've got this," Hen agrees.

Buck rushes over to his captain and, without bothering to ask, grabs the radio, "Eddie, get out. Now."

"Ev, I need to find this kid," Eddie says.

The sound can be heard before it can be seen. The north west part of the roof goes down, bringing most of the surrounding areas of the structure down with it. Time stands still but it also fast forwards. Buck falls forward, his knees slamming onto the gravel. No sound can be heard but his throat hurts. Is he screaming?

He lifts himself to his feet and stumbles towards the building. Strong arms wrap around him tightly, though, keeping him in place. He fights against the hold.

Hen, Chimney, and Ravi all stare at Buck in horror. They have never heard such raw emotion come from him. The only sounds are the fire roaring and Buck's uncontrollable screams as he sobs.

He falls to the ground, Bobby going down with him, holding Buck as best he can. He's holding his practical son's head to his chest, not even caring that he's the IC anymore. Luckily, the other captain is quick to take over.

Buck's world, for lack of better words, just came crashing down. He feels completely empty. Like someone cracked his heart like an egg and emptied its contents.

Then a gasp can be heard, followed by a loud and proud applause. Buck doesn't hear this, though. He still can't even hear himself scream. Eddie emerges from the house, absolutely covered in dust and soot, carrying the smaller body of a child in his arms. He has a slight limp, but overall appears to be okay. However, Chimney and Hen still rush over to him, Chimney taking the smaller body. Bobby, seeing that Buck is still not looking, lifts the younger man's head and guides him to look in Eddie's direction. Buck scrambles to his feet the second his brain understands the situation. Despite struggling to balance himself, Buck rushes forward, crashing into Eddie with a hug. Finally, his own sobs can be heard by his ears.

"Buck," Eddie says softly as he hugs back, "Ev, I'm okay."

Buck turns to Hen, who had just finished a preliminary exam, "is he?"

"No sign of concussion. He should get tests done at the hospital, but I don't see any signs of a serious injury."

"Good. That means I can do this guilt free," Buck says before he shoves Eddie roughly, "how dare you!?!?"

"I- Buck, there was another kid!"

"What about your kid, Eddie!? What about me!?" Buck screams.

The other fire team, acting as if they aren't listening, continue working on the fire, while the 118 focus their attention on Eddie and Buck. Chimney is quick to hold Buck back while Hen just sighs.

"Hey," Bobby says as he walks into the hospital room, smiling when he is shushed by Eddie.

Eddie is on the hospital bed with an ace bandage wrapped around his ankle. He has numerous monitors on his body. Buck is lying next to him, his arms wrapped around Eddie securely. He's sound asleep, his head on Eddie's shoulder. Eddie is mostly cleaned, now. His hair still smells like fire, as the hospital didn't have a strong enough shampoo to get the smell out.

"He's finally calmed down, I see," Bobby notes quietly as he gestures towards Buck.

Eddie chuckles sadly, "yeah, it took a while for him to trust going to sleep."

"You're out of work for at least a week," Bobby says, "I called in two subs, though, so that Buck can stay with you and help out with Chris."

"Thanks, Cap," Eddie says.

"Of course."

"No, I mean," Eddie pauses, "I could hear his screams from in the house. Words can't express how afraid I was that he'd come charging in. Thank you for not letting him."

"He would have," Bobby says, "if he could, he would have. He really loves you. Don't hurt him."

"I don't intend to," Eddie says softly, "I love him too.
