Tommy watches as Buck goes into the building. He wants to help carry Chimney and Hen out, but the soldier has a firm grasp on his arm. Apparently, evading multiple military helicopters and tricking the army is frowned upon. Who knew?

Tommy lets out a breath of relief as he sees his friends leave the building, but Buck doesn't. He glances to the monitor and sees Buck slamming his hand against glass between him and Bobby. Tommy's eyes are glued to the screen as he sees Bobby take off his mask.

"Fuck."

"Athena," Buck's voice comes over the radio, confirming Tommy's fear.

"Buck," there's a pause, "what is it?"

"You need to come in here."

Tommy watches as Athena appears on the monitor. There's no audio, so he doesn't know what is being said. Still, he keeps watching as he sees Buck make his way into the hallway. His eyes flicker between the cameras. He watches Athena place her hands on the glass. He watches as Buck puts his hand against the wall as he throws his helmet down.

"Let me go," Tommy says to the soldier.

"I can't," the soldier responds simply.

"Let me go," Tommy's voice is fiercer.

"I have orders to not let you out of my sight."

"Then come with me," Tommy says as he sees Buck fall to the ground.

The soldier doesn't argue this time, so Tommy pulls his arm away and makes his way to the entrance. He can hear the soldier behind him, but he doesn't care. He pushes past the plastic barrier and starts running. He slides to his knees as he approaches Buck and holds the sobbing firefighter.

"Fuck, Ev," Tommy says, "I'm here. I've got you."

"He's dead," Buck sobs.

"I know," Tommy says, "I know."

The scene is so heart wrenching, the soldier who knows nobody involved has tear-filled eyes.

Eventually, Tommy sees a group of firefighters walking in, carrying an empty body bag. The soldier helps Tommy get Buck to his feet and the three leave the building, Tommy carrying most of Buck's weight. Hen and Chimney see them, but neither one of them are capable of comforting anyone, so they just give grateful nods to Tommy, who nods in response.

Tommy gets Buck to sit in a chair while the soldier brings over a bottle of water.

"Here, you need water," Tommy says softly.

Buck just nods and takes the bottle.

Suddenly, the chaos of the command tent comes to a halt. Silence fills the air as everyone stairs at the entrance. Four firefighters walk out, each holding the backboard with one hand. Firefighters, police, and even soldiers stand and salute as they pass. Athena is following behind, clutching onto Bobby's helmet.

Buck sees her and immediately breaks down again. He stands and slowly walks over. He gently nudges one of the firefighters out of the way and takes their spot, grasping the backboard. Tommy catches on and walks over to take another's spot. Chimney, as he didn't have a tube sticking out of his chest, gets up, pats Hen's legs, and walks over to take another's spot. With tears running down their faces, they carry the backboard that is holding the body bag, towards the ambulance as everyone salutes.
