Jaxon is sitting in his room, staring at the object in his hand. He has always wondered what it would feel like to hold this. It feels a lot heavier than he expected. He snuck into his dads' room while Carlos said goodbye when TK left for work. Carlos is off today, so Jaxon knows the missing gun won't be noticed.
Carlos sighs as he hangs up his call, immediately dialing a new number.
"Hey, babe, what's going on?"
"Hey, TK," Carlos starts, "I just got called into work. I have to fill in for Parkinson."
"Can your mom watch him?" TK asks.
"Yes, but she won't be home for another two hours. I don't exactly want to leave him alone for that long," Carlos says.
"Yeah, I know, it's not ideal. He is fourteen, though," TK says.
"He's also only a week and a half into his med adjustment. His medication isn't working properly, yet," Carlos says softly.
"Yeah, you're right. Bring him to the 126 and your mom can pick him up here," TK says.
"Okay, I'll go update him. I'll tell him that Owen wants to see him," Carlos says as he walks to their son's room. He opens the door, "hey, bud, your dad and I-" Carlos interrupts himself at the sight.
Jaxon is standing in front of a mirror with his father's gun in his hand, pointed towards his head. His hands are shaking, his breathing is erratic, and his face is covered in tears.
"Carlos, what's happening?"
"Get here," Carlos says before placing the phone down on the dresser next to him, "hey, Jax. Why don't we take some breaths together, yeah?"
"I-I can't do this anymore," Jaxon says softly.
"I know that these past few months have been really tough on you, bud. Your dad and I are very proud of you for getting to where you are now. I'm sure that it feels like you're lost in a dark tunnel all alone, but we're with you. We have the light for you," Carlos says, TK getting a sense of what's happening as the 126 rushes over.
"I-I feel like I can't breathe," Jaxon says.
"Jax, can you please put the gun down?" Carlos asks softly, "once you do, we can work together to unravel your thoughts."
"I need to make it stop!"
"Jax, you need to let us help you, okay? That's our job," Carlos says softly, "we will help you. I promise. You just need to give me the gun."
Carlos holds his hand out calmly, though inside he's the exact opposite.
"You'll help me?" Jaxon turns to look at his father.
The ambulance and fire truck pull up to the home with their lights and sirens off, not wanting to startle Jaxon.
"We'll help you, buddy," Carlos confirms.
Jaxon slowly hands the gun over, placing it in Carlos' hand. Carlos is quick to take the ammo out and set the gun on the ground outside of the room. Once he straightens to a standing position, he pulls Jaxon into his arms. Carlos places his hand on the back of Jackson's head, holding it to his chest.
"We're clear," Carlos says towards the phone.
"Coming in now," TK says in a stress filled voice.
Within less than a minute, TK rushes into the bedroom, "hey, Jax," he says as he wraps his arms around his husband and son.
Tommy and Nancy come in and have Jaxon sit on the bed. Nancy monitors his vitals while Tommy pulls Carlos and TK out of the room.
"I hate to say it, but I think we all know what needs to happen," Tommy says softly.
"Yeah, he needs to be committed," TK responds sadly.
"He won't go willingly. We'll have to 5150 him," Carlos adds.
"He'll hate us," TK says.
"Until his meds are under control and realizes that all you too did was save his life," Tommy says kindly.
"Do it," Carlos says as he pulls TK aside and picks up his weapon.
The two fathers watch as their son is put on the stretcher and wheeled out to the ambulance. They follow everyone out, Carlos placing his gun on the kitchen table to be dealt with later on. They get into the car and follow the ambulance. On the drive, Carlos calls into the station to let them know a family emergency came up and that he won't make it in for his shift. The two fathers follow the ambulance in a stressed silence. They know they're doing the best for their son, they just don't like that it requires him to be away from them. Jaxon Gabriel Reyes-Strand is strong. TK and Carlos both know this to be true. They know that he will get through this with their love and support.
