Ever since he learned about the soulmate words, Evan Buckley-or Buck-has checked his arm after every interaction. See, after someone meets their soulmate-any interaction will do-words they say to the person appear on their arm. These aren't the first words, but are often words from a seemingly meaningless conversation. By the time he was in his twenties and had yet to have words on his arm, he gave up looking. Yes, Buck has looked forward to meeting his soulmate ever since he was little. He knew by the age of thirteen that there was a chance his soulmate would be a man. He never expected for his words to show up when he returns home from his shift after meeting his new, arrogant, coworker: Eddie Diaz. Of course, Eddie and Buck quickly bonded, but the moment he saw the words on his arm, he couldn't help but curse at the universe, hoping it wasn't Eddie. He did meet quite a few people during that shift.

"I should have been here"

Eddie also saw words on his arm, but much sooner. They were in the truck when he felt his arm start to tingle. When they arrived back at the station, he stepped away to examine his arm. He sees the words and smiles softly.

"We're way past that"

Buck and Eddie are standing in Buck's kitchen. They're discussing Maddie, and how the recent events with that woman are impacting her. They each have beers in their hands, standing about four feet apart.

"You can't save someone from themselves," Buck says, "not if they don't want it.

"Ain't that the truth," Eddie responds as he takes a sip of his beer.

"Especially if you aren't around to see that they need saving," Buck says, looking at Eddie as he finishes, "I'm sorry I wasn't there, Eddie. You and Chris needed me and I had my head so far up my own behind with that stupid lawsuit."

"We're way past that, Buck," Eddie says slowly, his eyes widening slifhtly as he realizes what he said.

"I'm not. I should have been here," Buck says, his expression matching Eddie's.

They both roll up their sleeves and look at their arms and back at one another, "holy shit," they say in unison.

Eddie is the first to move, pulling Buck in for a kiss. Buck smiles against Eddie's lips. They place their beers on the counter as they move their feet towards Buck's couch. Eddie sits on it and pulls Buck down to straddle his laps as they continue to kiss. Finally, after their chests hurt and they need air, they pull away.

"It's you," Buck says with a smile.

"It's me," Eddie says with a cheeky smile.
