Ghost // Barry Allen// The Flash.

1.11 I can't breathe.

I was sitting in the workspace working on a new two end headset to be placed in Barry's back up suit when I felt someone standing behind me.

"Yes Cisco?" I asked

"Are you okay? You walked out of the cortex upset, just making sure you are okay." Cisco asked

"I'm fine, just a really hard time accepting." I said looking back to the headset

"If you ever need to talk, I'm here." Cisco said

"Thank you Cisco." I said looking at him

I turned full around when I heard wheels squeaking on the concrete.

"Toxic gas attack at Central City Shopping center." Wells announced

Cisco and I looked at one another before we all raced back to the Cortex. I jumped into the rolling chair on the right side pulling up the maps and Barry's vitals.

"I patched into the mall's security system." Cisco said

"According to witnesses, the gas attack was in the main elevator in the north wing." I said

"Which one is the north wing?" Barry asked

"The one with the Big Bell Burger." Wells added

Cisco and I turned to look at him, surprised.

"I eat." Wells said

Barry's red dot was now placed on the elevator in the mall's map. We were waiting for him to say something. Several minutes went by without Barry saying anything but his vitals started to bomb.

"Barry?" I called out

Just radio silence.

I looked over to Cisco and Dr. Wells panicked but tried to remain calm. After several more minutes, still nothing. I was now sitting between Wells and Cisco, just waiting. I was praying to the gods above for him to be okay.

"Barry? Barry, can you hear me?" Wells called out

"His vitals are weak, but he's alive, Dr.Wells. I'm sure he's fine." Cisco said

A gust of wind and a flash almost knocked me off my chair with Barry holding on to me. He held a panicked look, searching mine before looking to Wells and Cisco. He was coughing and heavily wheezing.

"I can't breathe." he wheezed

"He needs oxygen, get the crash cart." Wells yelled

I couldn't take my eyes off Barry as I dropped to my knees, him leaning back into my chest.

"Barry, Barry. Look at me, you are going to be okay." I tried to say as my voice cracked

"Adaline." Barry wheezed

"Just try to breathe, Barry. Okay. Cisco!" i yelled

Barry continued to cough and hack trying to get air into his lungs. Cisco and I finally got him into a medical bed, I unzipped his suit and began placing monitors on him, trying to stay as calm as possible.

"Barry." I heard Caitlin call out but I couldn't take my eyes off him

"Barry." Caitlin said once again

"Cut me open, the poison is still inside me." He wheezed

"He brought us a sample. Adaline or Caitlin, we need to do a pulmonary biopsy, extract an active portion of that gas." Wells said

I just stared at Barry not listening.

"ADALINE!" Wells yelled

I looked at him before looking at Caitlin and Cisco.

"We can't give you any anesthetic, your metabolism will burn right through it." Caitlin said

"I heal quick, remember." He said

I stared at Caitlin.

"Give me the needle." I said holding my hand out

"Adaline." Caitlin said

"Caitlin." I pleaded

She looked at Wells and looked back at me.

"Do it." Wells said

"Cisco, give her the syringe." Caitlin said

"This is gonna hurt a lot." I said

"It's a small needle, you probably won't even feel it." Cisco said

"He's definitely gonna feel it." Caitlin said

"I'm so sorry." I whispered

I plunged the needle into Barry's chest as he gasped in pain. I extract the gas allowing his lungs to fully heal. He now lays there in the medical bed still passed out. I'm sitting a distance away when I finally heard movement.

"The streak lives." Cisco says with a smile

"You'd be dead if your lung cells didn't regenerate so quickly." Caitlin said

"Where is Lini?" He asked

"Right here." I said already moving to his side

"My chest feels like that one time I had a cigarette." Barry said

I laughed as everyone looked at him surprised.

"Yeah, teen Barry lived for danger." I said

"Hey you smoked it with me." He said grabbing my hand

"This isn't funny you could've-" Caitlin said

"I didn't." Barry replied

I looked at her sadly knowing she cares and is afraid to lose someone again. She turned and walked away upset.

"Now that we have a sample, we'll get to work analyzing it, figuring the make-up of the poison, maybe get a clue as to his human identity." wells said

"Or at least stop him from turning into the mist." Cisco said

We made eye contact, both pointing up.

"The mist. Okay, that's his name. End of discussion." Cisco said

"That's a good one." I said

"I have to get to the station." Barry said

"You should be resting." Wells said

"I second that." I said looking at him stand

"I have to talk to Joe." He said walking away

I turned looking at the two of them, annoyed.

"He's gonna be okay, right?" I asked

"He's Barry Allen, we have no clue." Cisco joked

I rolled my eyes before walking back to my small desk.

The next day, Barry arrived back at S.T.A.R. Labs looking for Caitlin and Adaline. He walked into the command center for the treadmill room seeing Caitlin sitting in the room alone. He walked in seeing her messing with the engagement ring, he slowly took a seat, not saying anything.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you leaving like that." Barry said

"It's okay, I get it. You had to go. It's just-- that's the last thing that Ronnie said to me that night." Caitlin said

Caitlin looked at Barry with a saddened look.

"My mother died 14 years ago. I used to think the further away I got from it, the less it would hurt. But some days, the pain, it's worse than the day it happened. Some things you can't fight." Barry replied

"For so long, I've been terrified of going in that hole." Caitlin confessed

"What if I went with you?" Barry asked
