The next morning, Barry walked into the cortex seeing Cisco upset and Caitlin trying to comfort him.
"Where's Bette?" Barry asked
"She left." Cisco said
"What do you mean? Where did she go?" Barry questioned
"She didn't say." Wells said
"Well where the hell could she be?" Barry asked
Across town, Bette was now sitting on the waterfront, looking out at the water. Seconds later, the military grade trucks came swarming around her. They shared some words before Bette bombed them, Barry was racing to get to her time, to take her out of it.
The trio back at the Cortex waiting to hear from Barry.
"We have a problem." Barry said
"Is Bette okay?" Cisco asked
"No, Eiling killed her. She's glowing, she's going to detonate." Barry said
"Oh my god, a mass that size, the explosion, it would be.." Caitlin said
"Devastating." Wells answered
"Barry, you have to get her away from the city." Caitlin added
"But there's no time." Barry said looking around
Barry looked to the bay.
"Can I run on water? I built up enough speed to run up a building. How fast do I need to go to run on water?" barry asked
"Assuming your weight-- 450 pounds of force per step for vertical suspension. Accounting for fluid drag. " Cisco said writing down his math
"Approximately 650 miles an hour." Wells said
"You have to outrun the blast or you'll die too." Cisco explained
Barry's dot began to move across the bay, toward the open sea away from civilization. The dot then turns quickly racing back. The dots were shown on the waterfront.
Later that day, the news was broadcasting Eiling saying that Bette's death was just an underwater weapons test.
"He murdered Bette right in front of me and there is nothing we can do to him." Barry said
"Powerful men have a way of avoiding consequences." Wells explained
"You gonna be okay?" Caitlin asked
"Yeah." Barry replied
"You can walk on water puts you in pretty interesting company." Caitlin said smiling
"I can't believe Dell missed it, she's gonna be so pissed." Cisco said
Barry laughed before walking toward Adaline's bed, sitting and waiting. Caitlin put a fresh IV bag with no sedatives in to clear her system. After seeing she was still out, Barry ran to go talk Iris out of writing about the streak again only for them to fight and agree to not see each other for a while. Barry was at the bar dreaming of being able to loosen the pain, when Caitlin and Cisco walked up.
"Hey." Cisco said
"Hey, what are you guys doing here?" Barry asked
"We thought we should have a toast." Caitlin said
"Doesn't work remember?" Barry answered
"Barry Allen, you of all people, should know that nothing is impossible." Caitlin said pulling out a small tube with clear liquid
"I distilled a highly fermented, potent suspension. It's basically 500 proof. I figured if anyone could use a drink tonight, it was you." Caitlin said
Barry stiffed it, stunned by the scent.
"Here's to Bette." Caitlin said
"Bette." barry said
They clinked their glasses together before downing the shot. Barry's face crumbled from the burn of the alcohol going down his throat. Barry makes a face letting out a cough.
"Whoa, oh. That hit too quickly." Barry said
"Are you buzzed?" Caitlin asked
"Yeah. Yeah, I'm buzzed for sure. Whoa that is good stuff." Barry said
Caitlin jumped in excitement seeing her creation work as Barry's face dropped.
"And it's gone." Barry said
"Work in progress." Caitlin said
Barry smiled at his two friends.
"Oh someone is waking up soon." Caitlin said
"Go be the first she sees." Cisco said patting his back
Barry got up smiling for racing out of the bar back in S.T.A.R. Labs. He walked in seeing Adaline still asleep on the bed but laying in a more comfortable position, Barry took a seat beside her waiting for her to wake. After about an hour, the IV bag was completely empty. He sent a text to Cailtin who walked in removing it from her arm before walking back out, he grabbed her hands rubbing her knuckles. Several minutes later, Adaline's eyes slowly opened stunned, confused on where she was. She looked to her left seeing Barry Allen staring at her with a cheesy smile.
"How long have I been out?" She asked
"Three days." barry answered
"Holy shit." She whispered
"Why didn't you say anything Lini?" Barry asked
"About?" She asked
"Your arms, the pain, your powers. You know you can talk to me." Barry said
"We were all a little busy, I know for next time now." She said
"I can't do it again without my girl in my corner." Barry said
"Your girl?" Adaline asked surprised by his confidence
"You've always been my girl." He said
She rolled my eyes, looking at her arms, seeing them back to their normal color not covered in bruises.
"By the way, you missed a lot." Barry said
"Tell me about it." she said
"I lost Bette." he said
"I'm sorry Barry, you can't save everyone." She replied
He nodded.
"I also really messed up." He said
"How so?" She asked
She looked to their tangled hands seeing Barry rubbing his thumb over her knuckles.
"Iris and I aren't going to talk for a while." He said
"Oh Barry." She said
"And Joe knows." Barry said
She looked at him confused.
"He knows?" She questioned
"He knows..." he said looking at my hands
Her eyebrows frowned together before it finally clicked and her face dropped.
"He knows!" She yelled
"It slipped out." Barry explained
"Oh my fuck, Bartholomew Henry Allen! How are you a superhero?!" She asked
Hours later, Barry had left to go for a run to clear his head when Cisco came in.
"Hey." Adaline smiled
"Dellie survives." Cisco said
She smiled.
"Cisco, I need you to help me with something." She said
"What's up?" He said
"I need you to create a room for me in my basement." She said
"A what?" He asked
"A dampening cage to go in the structure of the room, one that I can make look like a room so I can sleep down there." she said
"What is this about?" Cisco asked
"I was just placed in a sedative sleep for three days because I have no control. Please Cisco help me." Adaline pleaded
Cisco and Adaline stared at each other before Cisco nodded, grabbing her hand.
"Anything for my best friend." he replies
