But Jay was already 5 steps ahead. Before becoming a cop, Jay had spent his early 20s in the military, as a sniper with survival and tracking skills 'like nobody had ever seen' recalled his commanding officer. Having that kind of advantage over the other officers and his team meant that he was already half way to finding Lennox without no such help as a tracking device or a map. After ten minutes or so a dozen officers and Detective Halloway caught up to Jay, giving him the monitor so that he could situate himself and pinpoint where Lennox was. Just seconds later Jay's ears pricked up at a faint whimper in the distance, and he looked around in front of him. If he was right, the sound came from about a hundred yards ahead.
"What's wrong? Jay?" Detective Halloway frowned.
"Wait a second." He stepped forward, cupping his hands around his mouth. "LENNOX!!" He bellowed.
His hands acted like a megaphone, amplifying his voice throughout the forest.
"Jay!" He heard weakly. Instantly, without need for the monitor, he knew exactly where she was.
"I got her, Lennox!" He ran at his top speed, dodging trees as he went.
He was only running for five seconds before a body came into view - it was Lennox, that much relieved him. But he soon understood what she was talking about on the phone when she said her leg was in pain; she'd triggered a bear trap.
