"Jesus."
She looked up after hearing his voice.
"Hey."
"Hey. What are you doing up? It's 7 in the morning."
"Couldn't sleep, we've only got two days left."
At that he frowned. "You've been up all night?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Christ Len."
He sighed and went into the kitchen, switching on the coffee machine and then coming back into view.
"You should get some sleep."
"I'm not tired."
"I don't believe that. Come on, you've been running on fumes for days you should at least try."
"I can't."
He could hear the frustration in her voice. Scared of letting her exhaustion get the better of her, she kept quiet. Caleb had known Lennox a long time, and the way she worked was something he'd always found himself in awe of. Once she had her mind set on something she never gave up, but he'd seen her go down a lot of rabbit holes. Usually they didn't end well. He didn't question her or argue because he already knew the reason for her frustration, but before he could make his next comment Skye appeared next to him in the doorway rubbing her eye.
"What time is it?"
Caleb just let out a laugh. "Do you have a radar for the coffee machine or something?"
She took a second to compute what he'd said, and then she looked at him through squinted eyes.
"There's coffee?"
"Yeah, come on."
He turned towards the kitchen, Skye following after him as Lennox looked back at her laptop. Maybe she was just numb to it, but she was exhausted. Not that it mattered - ever since Kaila, she'd become immune to sleeping with no cure in sight.
