"Lennox?"

The sound of Jay's voice awakened her mind. Her eyelids dragged themselves open. As she scanned the room through slitted eyes, she realised that she was no longer in the woods, but in a clean, white-walled room - the same room she'd been in many times since childhood - and she was no longer in any pain. She was in the hospital. With the recognition of the room came all the dreaded thoughts of the consequences she wanted to avoid by sneaking away. How am I going to explain this to dad? How angry is Jay? What's my cover story?

But her thoughts were overridden by flashbacks of her dream. It'd been so long since she'd seen her mother, she'd begun to forget what she looked like. Her eyes opened wider than before, getting Jay's attention as she looked around, replaying the dream in her mind.

"Lennox?" He moved his chair closer as she laid eyes on him, feeling herself begin to calm.

"Hey. You're in the hospital, okay? You're safe." He said reassuringly. When he took her hand she  welcomed the gesture, reciprocating with a gentle squeeze. She swallowed, wincing slightly at the scratchiness of her throat and taking a deep breath.

"What happened?" She asked quietly, her voice raspy.

"How much do you remember?" He countered.

She cast her mind back to the night before. She remembered going to the house but not finding anything, and then recalled everything going horribly wrong only after she'd left. Her eyes darted left and right a few times before settling on him.

"The bear trap."
