She sighed at the mention of her father. This was her chance to get everything off her chest. She knew Jason, trusted him. If she would tell anybody it'd be him. He could see that the thought of talking was mulling over in her mind, but after just a few seconds she had a shift in demeanor that resembled a suspect beginning to get defensive.
"What are you getting at Jay? You think I'm a liar?"
"I'm trying not to. Because I know that's not you. But she was 16 years old Len, and she had blood like sludge after not even a broken bone her entire life, teenage girls don't just die, not like this. I'm asking you to think about whether Caleb and Skye's story was the truth about what happened to Sasha."
"It is. That's what happened. They're not lying, and neither am I."
He sighed the kind of disappointing sigh a teenager might get from their parents after attending a party they were banned from going to, and honestly it was hurtful coming from him, but she stuck to her word.
He nodded slightly before standing up, knowing that if she wouldn't talk now, she wouldn't change her mind.
"Okay. I'll have Officer Paul take you back to the hospital." He pushed the chair under the table, then turning back after taking a step towards the door.
"The doctor found a cut, on Sasha's left arm, just below her shoulder. Her shirt had fresh blood on it, not clotted. Looked like it'd been there an hour, maybe less. You know anything about that?"
She slowly shook her head. "No. Sorry."
And he looked her up and down before reluctantly leaving the room.
