Evelyn watched as Allison entered the school building, a strawberry blonde next to her. They were obviously friends. Her attention was distracted by two other students. Anger boiled inside of Evelyn. They were twins; the twins were going to Allison's high school. She stood up, kicking down the kickstand on her bike and walking over, but by the time she reached the school, the twins had entered the building. Evelyn jumped as her phone began to ring. "Lopez," she said, using her mother's name. It had become a habit in the last several years. Having the Argent name brought attention to her, something she always tried to avoid.

"Evelyn, I need your help," the voice on the other end said. Evelyn tensed even more at the sound. She didn't trust the woman on the other end. They had a bad history. "Look, I know that we aren't on the best terms, but I'm in the hospital, and your sister might be in danger from Deucalion. I'll tell you everything, but I need your help."

"Braeden, what do you mean my sister is in trouble?" Evelyn asked, watching as more students entered the building.

"I can't talk on the phone. They're hunting me in the hospital. I need a distraction. I'll meet you at the school afterward," Braeden said.

"Fine, but only for Allison," Evelyn said.

Evelyn hurried into the hospital, spotting Braeden on the other side of the floor, struggling to make it across. The sound of the elevator doors opening drew her attention. Evelyn looked just as a man came flying through the air toward her. She ducked out of the way, recognizing him as he hit the floor. It was Ennis, an alpha werewolf in Deucalion's pack. He pushed himself back up, getting to his feet. Braeden's words sounded in Evelyn's mind; she needed a distraction. "Ennis!" Evelyn shouted, stepping out in front of the werewolf. She could see the shock flash across Braeden's face as the other woman contemplated whether Evelyn was nuts or not; she probably was, but that wasn't the focus right now.

"It's been a long time, Argent," Ennis hissed. Evelyn saw Braeden duck out the doors behind him. Now, all she had to do was get rid of the werewolf.

Evelyn said, "I just wanted you to tell Deucalion to stay away from my sister." She walked calmly past the werewolf, knowing he wouldn't risk his cover and kill her there. He wouldn't risk disrupting Deucalion's plan.

Evelyn rushed into the school building. She had forgotten about Braeden, having heard about the bird incident on her way over. "They really need to up security." She murmured as she walked in unhampered. It was way too easy for bad things to happen at this school. She sighed with relief as she spotted Allison in the hall next to her friend. Evelyn tensed again as she saw the twins walking toward the two girls. She knew that since Allison was an Argent, a hunter, and a known friend of the resident pack, Deucalion would target her, but Evelyn wouldn't let the alphas hurt her. Evelyn strode forward, forgetting the fact she hadn't spoken to her younger sister in close to seven years. "Allison," Evelyn called carefully, placing herself between the two approaching werewolves and the teens.

"Evelyn," Allison said, astonished.

Evelyn watched out of the corner of her eye as the twins, their eyes flashing red, walked away, knowing that Evelyn had the upper hand. They couldn't beat her on their own. "Wha how I mean," Allison stuttered.

"Alright, let's get you girls home," a voice said from behind Evelyn. She froze. She hadn't seen the man the voice belonged to since the night of the fire. Evelyn couldn't decide what to do. She was caught between running and turning around to face him. She'd have to face him if she stayed much longer, but the pain of what had been said that night still sat between them.

"I should go," Evelyn said, finally turning on her heel and marching out of the building, trying to push away the memory of the night she had left. She swung onto her bike, tears streaming down her face as she sped away.
Flashback
Evelyn rushed into the house, hoping to find her father there alone and that maybe, just maybe, Gerard hadn't gotten to him and that he would believe her help her. She had left Cora outside, hidden in the car they had stolen. "Dad," Evelyn called out.

"Evelyn, what, how are you here?" he said, appearing out of his office. "I thought you were still down with Kate in Beacon Hills."

"I need you to listen to me, please," Evelyn begged.

"Hey Lynn," he said, holding her shoulders. "Whatever you have to tell me, I will always listen."

"There was a fire at the Hale house," Evelyn stuttered out. "It wasn't an accident; the doors they were locked."

"It's not our issue what they do to their own kind," he said.

"Except it wasn't one of them, Dad," Evelyn said, "It was one of us, a hunter."

"You can't be serious," he said. "There were human children in that house; no Argent would dare."

"It gets worse. I think it was Kate," Evelyn said. "I think Gerard gave her the idea."

"No, her father said no, she wouldn't. This is nonsense."

 "Dad, please," Evelyn pleaded.

"No, I won't have you listening to gossip and spreading lies about this family," he spat.

"It's not lies," Evelyn said, tears starting to drip down her face. It had been a long night.

"No, it's lies. Kate wouldn't do that. I know her better than that."

"You trust her more than you trust me," Evelyn asked.

"Of course I do." He said, "You're just a silly little child. You know nothing."

"It's you who knows nothing!" Evelyn shouted, turning to leave, but her father reached out, grabbing her arm." You haven't seen Kate in over a year; you don't know what she's become," Evelyn cried.

"If you're going to believe the gossip of werewolves, then get out of here," he shouted.

"If you won't believe me on this, then at least know this: they are no longer my family."

"Then you're no longer my daughter," Argent shouted. Evelyn froze his words, shocking her, and they felt like a slap to the face.

"Then I guess I have no one left but Allison," she shouted before turning and running out of the house, knowing she may never see her family again. Evelyn only prayed that she had at least given her father enough doubt in Gerard and Kate to keep Allison out of the supernatural world. She slipped into the car outside, looking at the young, dark-haired werewolf next to her. "We have to hide," she said.

"The vault, we can use the vault," the young girl said.
