Evelyn sat in the car with Argent in the driver's seat next to her and Allison and Issac in the back behind them. "What is it?" Allison asked when Argent looked at his phone and then sighed.

"Katashi won't do that buy in person," Argent said.

"He's a paranoid recluse. What did you expect?" Issac asked.

"I was hoping I wouldn't have to go to my plan b," Argent said. How tall are you?" he asked Isaac.

"Guys, this isn't going to work," Issac said, stepping out from changing into the suit as Argent, Evelyn, and Allison looked over a map of the area. "I look like I just stepped out of the last period of a catholic prep school, and I'm sweating through my jacket. I didn't even know I could sweat this much," Issac rambled.
"Give me a minute," Allison said. Evelyn nodded, pulling Argent back around the front of the car. She didn't approve of Allison and Issac, but right now, they needed Issac calm, and well, she'd never approved of Allison's boyfriends. Even Scott worried her slightly.

"I want you to stay back," Argent said.

"What, no," Evelyn told him.

"Evelyn, I need someone to act as backup, and with your newfound skill of telling when any of us is in trouble, I won't need to contact you."

"Are you sure that's all this is?" Evelyn asked.

"What else could there be?"

"Dad, I know when you're lying."

"He may have known your mother," Argent whispered. All the fight left Evelyn at the mention of her mother. They both knew that while she could ignore most emotional distractions, shoving her emotions into a small box and hiding them away, she always had an overwhelming urge to know more about her mother, searching and clawing for any small piece of information the obsession overrode any rational thought at times causing Evelyn to put her safety in jeopardy for small scraps of information.

Evelyn crouched on the roof, watching, concentrating on her senses, trying to figure out how to turn on her ability. She watched through the window as her father and Allison stood. She felt a familiar feeling once again. This time, she realized it wasn't panic but a need to protect the kind you felt when you knew a family member was in danger. Evelyn rushed forward, hurrying into the building. "Ah, I see you brought your oldest as well," Katashi said.

"Allison, call Scott and tell him what you found the barrier. I don't think it's working," Evelyn said, ignoring Katashi. Allison nodded quickly, pulling out her phone and calling Scott. Evelyn stared at Katashi as Allison spoke. He had known her mother known, a woman who was so important to her and yet so much of a mystery. Suddenly, Evelyn noticed the feeling was gone.

"What is it?" Argent asked her as she let out a breath.

"They're safe," Evelyn said.

"You're sure," Allison asked.

"You want me to answer that honestly," Evelyn asked her little sister.

"Yes," Katashi said. Argent moved slightly so that he was in front of Evelyn, positioning himself between her and Katashi. Argent knew that Evelyn was strong and that she could protect herself, but when it came to her mother, things were different for both of them. Argent still and always would feel guilty about what happened that night about not protecting her mother, and all Evelyn wanted was to know the woman who had died saving her life. "Oh, come on, Mr. Argent, I mean no harm. It's just obvious that your oldest has inherited her mother's ability, and I would like to see just how good she is at it," Katashi said playfully.

"No" Argent growled.

"Really, I think your daughter might be interested in just how well I knew her mother," Katashi said. Evelyn reached out, putting a hand on Argent's arm. She stepped out from behind him.

"How well did you know her?" Evelyn asked. Her curiosity peaked. She knew she was playing a dangerous game. This man was yakuza. He had the resources to kill her, Allison, and her father with a snap of his fingers, but she couldn't help herself.

"Answer my question," Katashi said.

 "I don't know," Evelyn whispered.

"Then neither do I," Katashi said.

"Let's go," Argent said gruffly. He grabbed Evelyn's hand and gently pulled her out of the room.

"I knew her well enough to know what really happened that night." Katashi shouted after them. Evelyn froze in the doorway.

"Come on, Let's go," Argent said softly as Allison and Issac turned to look at her. Evelyn let him lead her out of the building and back to the car, feeling numb at the mention of her mother and the night she lost her, the night her whole life changed.
