"Awooo," Evelyn bolted to her feet as she heard the howl outside. She recognized the sound.

"Cora," she breathed, knowing the howl belonged to the younger Hale sibling. Evelyn turned, grabbing her bow and stuffing her bag with hunting gear. She had once made Cora a promise that she was not willing to break, not even for her promise to Deucalion.
Flashback
"Well," Evelyn said to the young werewolf next to her. "If you ever lose control on a full moon, I'll be there. I'll stop you from doing anything you regret."

"Promise?" Cora asked. "Promise you'll never leave me."

"Promise I'll always be here for you," Evelyn told her.

Evelyn pounded through the woods, tracking Cora as she went. She rounded the corner and came to a campsite where a young human woman, Derek, Scott, the blonde teen from the clinic, Cora, and another werewolf stood on one side of a fire. Evelyn darted forward as Cora lunged at her brother. "Cora!" she shouted, drawing attention to herself. The second werewolf turned, lunging at her. Evelyn turned to duck his claws, and, roiling to the side, she notched a flash-bang arrow. Pointing it between Cora and her friend before releasing the bow string. The arrow exploded, blinding the two werewolves. Evelyn stumbled backward as Cora lunged forward, slashing at her. The two began to circle each other, waiting for any openings. "Cora, listen to me," Evelyn said. "I know you're still in there. Listen to me." Cora lunged forward, causing Evelyn to stumble backward, tripping on a rock. She fell onto her back, Cora pouncing on her claws at Evelyn's throat. "Stop," the young Argent shouted when she saw Scott moving toward her. Out of the corner of her eye, Cora meant nothing to him, but Evelyn cared for her as much as she did Allison. "Go ahead," she said, turning back to Cora to "prove that you've surrendered all control and that the wolf part of you, the part that knows nothing but how to hunt and kill, is all that's left. Prove it because I don't believe that," Evelyn said as Cora's claws dug into her neck. "You know why? Because if you didn't have some little bit of control, I'd be dead right now lying here bleeding out on the ground, but Cora, I know you're still in there. I know you can hear me," Evelyn said, raising a hand to grab the clawed one at her throat. She slowly peeled Cora's claws away. Evelyn sat up on her knees, holding Cora's hands in her own.

"Evelyn," Cora said hoarsely, her golden eyes slowly returning to their normal light brown. Evelyn nodded. "You're here," Cora said.

"I promised," Evelyn said, pulling the young werewolf close so no one else could see how she shook with exhaustion and fear. Cora hated for others to see her vulnerable. She met Derek's eyes over her shoulder, the look on his face breaking her heart. He was surprised but also angry, so very angry that Evelyn hadn't told him Cora was alive. Suddenly, Evelyn felt a sharp pain in her back. She heard a snarl behind her. Evelyn cried out, causing Cora to lose control once more. Cora jumped up, turned, and ran off the other werewolf close behind her. "Cora!" Evelyn screamed, jumping up and ignoring the pain that flared in her back. "Dammit," Evelyn muttered, turning back to the assembled group of werewolves.

"You knew," Derek said, surprised, hurt lacing his voice.

"This is not the time, Derek," Evelyn said, grabbing her bow from where it had fallen on the ground and slipping it back over her shoulder. She took off after the two werewolves, praying she could catch Cora before she did something she would regret.
