Evelyn slipped Kate's necklace into her jacket pocket. She had a feeling she was going to need it. Are you OK? Derek asked, coming up behind her. I should have been paying attention, she said. I should have known. You were worried about Deaton, Derek said. I pushed them away, and now Scott could die. We'll find them, Derek said. We always do. Evelyn nodded, grabbing her bag and her bow and heading for the door, not daring to tell him about Peter.

Evelyn and Braeden pulled up in a prison transport van. Braeden hopped out of the driver's side as Evelyn slammed the passenger side door closed. How did you get a prison transport van? Stiles asked. I'm a US Marshall. Braeden said. Yeah, I thought that was just a cover, Stiles said. Nope, she really is a fed, Evelyn said as Derek pulled into the warehouse. Are we really bringing him? Derek asked, motioning to Liam as he got out of his car. Are we really bringing him? Evelyn asked, pointing at Peter we're bringing everyone that we can Peter said. And considering Scott and Kira were taken the night before the full moon we should probably get going. A werewolf can't steal a true alpha's power, but maybe a Nugual jaguar with the power of Tezcatlipoca behind her, maybe she can. So if everyone is sufficiently freaked out, I say we get going, Peter said. We can't, Stiles told him, not without Lydia. Derek looked at Evelyn she's at the school, Evelyn explained before shooting Peter a glare and walking over to the prison transport leaning against the back of the van. Playing with the zipper on her jacket, she didn't trust Peter. Her gut was saying that he had something to do with Scott and Kira getting taken.

What was she doing at the school anyway? Derek asked. They had been waiting for about an hour. We got Kira's sword, but we need something with a stronger scent Malia said. Lydia went to get a jacket out of her locker. Nothing Stiles said. If she has a car, she can catch up to us, Braeden said. No, what if something happened, Stiles said. Or if something happens on the road, Evelyn pointed out, fine, Peter said, you two stay. You find her. We're gonna go on without you. I could call Mason. Liam said he has a study group at school. Maybe he could look for her. Stiles, she's not in any danger, not right now, Evelyn said. Still, she wouldn't put it past Kate to figure out a way to trap Lydia without putting her in immediate danger, therefore negating Evelyn's power. All right, fine Stiles said. Liam pulled out his phone, making the call. They all piled into the cars. Peter and Malia took Derek's while the others piled into the transport van, Evelyn and Braeden in the front with the boys in the back. Those are definitely not going to hold, Braeden whispered as they put handcuffs on Liam. Evelyn listened as Derek showed Liam the triskelion, trying not to laugh as he called it a powerful supernatural talisman. Yes, it's powerful, Stiles said, clearing his throat. Very powerful. Evelyn snorted the smile quickly dropping from her face as she remembered it had been Peter who said the same thing to Derek. Not helping, Derek muttered.

Evelyn looked back as she heard the handcuffs snap. Whatever you're going to teach me, you better do it now, Liam growled. Liam, are you with me? Derek asked. We have a mantra that we use. You repeat it, and you focus on the words. It's like meditating. Evelyn turned, focusing back on the road.

Derek! Evelyn shouted as they almost went into a ditch from Liam rocking the truck. Keep going, Derek shouted as Liam roared. Evelyn looked back, fearful, as Derek no longer had his werewolf abilities. I think we're going to need to go a little faster Stiles shouted. We're almost there Braeden yelled. I really don't think alpha beta omega is really resonating with him, Stiles said. You know any other mantras? Derek asked. Yeah, I do Stiles said. Liam, he called Liam. Liam, Evelyn shouted. The young beta froze, looking up at her. Derek sent her a confused look, and Evelyn shrugged. What three things can not long be hidden Stiles asked. Liam growled at Derek. Liam Evelyn shouted again, catching his attention once more. What three things can not long be hidden? Stiles asked Sun. Liam growled. Moon, he said, calmer, leaning away from Derek the truth. That's it. Say it again, Stiles said. Liam repeated the mantra. Evelyn sighed, leaning against the headrest. They had a long night. Derek, she asked. We're OK he said. We're OK Stiles repeated like he couldn't quite believe it. Evelyn hopped out of the truck, leaving the boys talking as they parked. She walked around to the back after strapping her bow to her back and grabbing her gun. Derek, she yelled as she saw a Bezerker grab him and throw him across the ground. The berzerker immediately picked him up, throwing him against a rock; it slammed its fist against his chest. Derek! Evelyn screamed again, running forward and pulling her gun, but time seemed to slow. The bezerker brought its hand up bone, pointing straight at Derek's chest. It slammed down, stabbing him just as Evelyn and Braeden began to fire, causing it to run off, Braeden following it. Evelyn darted forward, running to Derek as he groaned in pain. She could see blood coming through his teeth, painting them red. She looked down as he moved his hand to see a deep gash. How bad is it? Peter asked. I'm fine, I'm fine, just get to Scott Derek gasped. Just find him. We'll be right behind you go, he said. Go! he shouted again. Evelyn looked at Derek, and she knew, knew he was lying they weren't going to be right behind them. She turned to see a look of true sadness on Peter's face. Go! she shouted. You have to save Scott. Peter turned and ran, Malia and Liam following him. Hey, hey, Derek said to Stiles save him. The two shared a look for a moment before Stiles looked over at Evelyn. He knew she realized just like she did; he knew it was an act put on for their benefit and that Derek would most likely be dead by the time he came out. Stiles nodded before turning and running off to save Scott, leaving Derek and Evelyn alone. Lydia was right, Derek gasped. No, Evelyn said, refusing to believe it even though she knew she could feel it. She wouldn't be able to heal this wound, but she wouldn't believe it. No, she whispered. Stay with me, she said, handing him her gun. You're going to be OK. Evelyn, it's a mortal wound, and right now, I'm feeling pretty mortal, Derek joked. Evelyn glared at him I'm not going to let you die she said. Evelyn Derek whispered you've already tried healing it four times by my count, three when the others were still here. There was a low growling in the distance. You know you can't heal it, he whispered, and if you don't come back, Lexie loses everything. Save yourself, he said, gasping for air. Evelyn got up, pulling out her bow. It was unconventional. She knew fighting a berzerker with a bow, but she had armor-piercing arrows and a few exploding ones she had grabbed from her father's stash. She peeked around the corner to see Kate coming with a berzerker. And she stopped, unsure if she could face her aunt head-on right now. She was too emotional, memories swirling through her head, as well as Derek dying a few feet away. Kate she knew she could easily play on it, or Evelyn thought she could just give into it. Kate fought with emotions. Maybe to win, she should too. Evelyn fired at the berserker, each arrow lighting any flammable piece of it on fire. Braeden suddenly appeared next to her, firing her own shotgun. The berzerker rushed her, grabbing her by the neck and slamming her against the wall. What did they pay you? Kate asked. Way more than you're worth, Braeden said. The berserker dropped Braeden as two cars appeared out of the fog. Evelyn turned, rushing back to Derek. She heard gunshots behind her. Derek, she said. Derek Evelyn repeated. He turned his head to look at her, smiling. Then his eyes closed his body going slack. His head fell back. Derek, she choked out, tears streaming down her cheeks as she felt him slip away. Evelyn could feel that Lydia was in trouble. Scott was in danger, all of them. Where she glanced over at Derek, and all the pain inside of her turned to anger, fueling her as she grabbed the gun from Derek's hand and jumped into the fight. She locked eyes with Argent across the road, and he immediately knew what had happened from the pure pain and sadness in her eyes. Derek Hale was dead, and just like he'd feared, it had broken her. Evelyn stood up, raising her gun. She fired at the bezerkers. Firing again and again, not at center mass but instead at the arms and legs, hoping enough bullets would at least slow it down. Suddenly, Evelyn heard a wolf howling. She gasped, feeling her connection to Derek reappear. She looked back to find that his body was gone. That's impossible, she whispered. A completely black wolf bounded towards Kate. She growled, baring her teeth at the creature, but then stepped back in shock. The wolf jumped on Kate, who screamed, falling to the ground. It tore at her, growling and snarling. Kate shoved it off, crawling away. The wolf snarled, turning into Derek. Evelyn gasped. He was alive. You were you were dead, Kate stammered. No, Derek said I was evolving. Something you'll never do. Derek Evelyn shouted, stepping forward as a berzerker lunged at him. He sidestepped its attack, grabbing its head and crushing it. Kate turned, running away before Argent fired a shot, hitting her and causing her to fall to the ground. Chris, she gasped, scrambling to her feet and then running off. Evelyn watched as her father quickly followed. Derek looked back at her and nodded slightly. Evelyn took off running after them. You can't see them clearly anymore, can you she heard Kate say as she rushed down the tunnel. Scott's not you're little hero; none of them are not when they killed Allison, Kate whispered. Evelyn froze in the entrance to the cavern Argent and Kate were in. Allison died. She died saving her friends, Argent said. Evelyn stepped forward. Who would you die for? She asked. Hmm, Argent said. You're not going to kill me, Kate said. And you're not going to catch me, she said, walking to another tunnel, not you, not Peter, and not the Calaveras. Maybe not, Evelyn shouted, but maybe we don't care enough to look. Kate froze. That's what makes you so important Kate Evelyn said that you matter. Well, guess what, Kate? You don't not to me, not anymore, Kate. You're dead to me, Evelyn shouted. Digging in her pocket, she pulled out the necklace and threw it forward. The gold chain landed only feet away from Kate. You don't mean that Kate whispered I mean every word Evelyn said Kate turned running out of the tunnels. Argent leaned back against the wall of the tunnel, silently crying, lamenting all they had lost. Evelyn walked over without saying a word. She wrapped an arm around him, crying as well. She had meant what she had said. The Kate Argent she had loved and cared for faded away years ago. The woman left was only a shadow, but that didn't make it any easier. She leaned down picking up the ring from the floor it wasn't a precious token connecting her to Kate anymore no now it was just a reminder a reminder not to trust.

Evelyn helped Derek pack his car as her father spoke to Scott. They had decided to leave. They would go by Beacon Hills to pick up Lexie and say goodbye, but for now, they were going to leave the town. Evelyn leaned against Derek as he stood at the back of the car. She had offered to take Braeden as far as the border. Where she went from there was up to her. Evelyn nodded a goodbye to the teens before turning and walking slipping into the passenger seat of the car. She'd miss them, but for now, she had to let herself be happy.
