Evelyn stepped out of the shower wrapping a towel around her before slipping out into the main room. Evelyn quickly slipped into a tank top and a pair of leggings before grabbing her brush to brush her hair. She stopped midway through the task when the scar on her chest caught her attention. She dropped the brush, looking in the mirror at the bite mark that permanently marred her skin. The consequence of her first encounter with Deucalion. One she had barely survived and could never forget. She raised her fingers lightly, tracing the mark that sat just below her collarbone, something she usually kept covered, not wanting to announce to everyone that she had been bitten while she didn't necessarily follow the hunter code anymore. She was still an Argent, something that came with a lot of baggage in the supernatural world, and some other hunters would still kill her just for being bitten. A loud thud from the window startled Evelyn out of her trance. She scrambled to the bed where she had set down her gun before her shower. Holding it close to her body, she walked over to the window. She disliked guns, preferring instead a bow or crossbow, but a gun was a quick, effective weapon that she used when needed. Evelyn pulled back the curtain and peeked out. She was met with a pair of brilliant green eyes. She sucked in a breath, surprised that he was here and at yet at the same time she had hoped he would come. Evelyn threw open the window. "Derek, what are you doing here?" She hissed as he climbed into the room.

"I wanted to talk to you," he said innocently, shrugging his shoulders.

Evelyn laughed at his reaction, which reminded her of when they were kids and had run around Beacon Hills like they owned the place. " And you couldn't use the door like a normal person," she asked, looking up at him, still smiling as he stood up straight.

"I think we can both agree that I'm nowhere close to being a normal person," Derek said. "And besides, I like to make an entrance," he added, his eyes sparkling with amusement as he smirked. Evelyn rolled her eyes, turning slightly to set her gun down on the table. The motion caused her hair to move, revealing her scar. Derek's smile dropped as he saw the mark, and his eyes hardened. Evelyn looked back at him, confused for a second, until she followed his eyes to see what he was looking at. Embarrassed, Evelyn turned away, quickly covering the scar again. "Evelyn," Derek said, stepping closer, her back still turned to him.

"Deucalion," Evelyn said quietly, looking down at the floor, afraid that he would treat her differently now that he knew she had been bitten by the alpha they were fighting. That he would think she was bonded to him as many betas were to their alphas.

Derek Pov
Derek moved around so that he was in front of Evelyn. He had known from the little hints being dropped and what he remembered of her in his loft earlier that day that she had a history with Deucalion, something she was hiding. Still, he had never imagined the truth that lay behind the mask Evelyn had been wearing since she arrived back in Beacon Hills. Seeing the small bite-shaped scar again, Derek felt anger boiling up inside of him: anger at Deucalion for having hurt her and anger at himself for letting it happen. He had been so angry and afraid after the fire he hadn't even thought to look for her, not even realizing that she would have figured out what had happened quickly what Kate had done by the time he'd thought of her, she'd already been gone having disappeared seemingly into thin air the night of the fire now he realized she must have gone to the house looking for him and instead found it up in flames saving Cora before taking off. He hated it, but everything had changed that night, even their relationship. She had always shared everything with him before, but now she held back.

Evelyn POV
"I think he expected it to kill me," Evelyn whispered, still staring down at her feet. "Either that or turn me into a beta, in which case I'm sure he would have just killed me anyway." She laughed dryly, finally looking up, tears making her blue eyes glisten as she remembered what had happened. "Imagine his surprise when nothing happened. Instead, he seemed to make a totally new monster."

"You're not a monster," Derek said, repeating something she had told him a thousand times before when they were young, whenever Derek had been afraid of how the outside world would view him if they knew the truth. Evelyn looked away, looking around the room, everywhere but his face. "Hey," Derek said quietly, stepping closer and gently grabbing her chin, forcing her to look at him. "You're not a monster."

"You don't know that, Derek," Evelyn said quietly. "You don't know me," she whispered, "not anymore." She pulled away from him walking over to the table in the corner. Being on her own for so long had taught Evelyn to not let people in to keep her distance, and as much as she wanted to let Derek in, she was already planning to leave after Deucalion was dealt with. She wanted desperately to be able to have the life she had left behind, but Derek was wrong. She was a monster. The girl who had run from Beacon Hills all those years ago was gone.

"I should go," Derek said. After a minute, Evelyn didn't respond, just sat there as Derek left, using the door this time. After she was sure he had left, Evelyn curled into a ball, letting the tears flow freely.
