Evelyn stood in the background of the loft, watching as Derek examined Parrish's hands for any burns. "He covered you in gasoline," Derek asked.
"It's the hair and nails, isn't it the parts of the body that are essentially dead," Lydia said.
"Well, they should be gone," Derek told her.
"I was set on fire. All of me should be gone," Parrish said.
"Not if you're like us," Scott said.
"Like you," Parrish asked.
"I don't think he's like us," Derek said as Evelyn walked forward, coming to stand next to Lydia, choosing to stand closer to the banshee than the Hale.
"Then what is he?" Lydia asked.
"Sorry, but I have no idea," Derek said.
"But you knew about Jackson and Kira," Scott said.
"This is a little out of my experience," Derek said. "There might be something in the bestiary. Did you try Argent?"
"I don't know where he is," Scott said.
"OK, hold on, what's a bestiary?" Parrish asked. "Actually, that's not even my first question." He said as Derek looked over at Evelyn, who had pulled out her phone to call Argent. "Just just tell me one thing," Parrish said as Evelyn stepped away, Derek watching her. "Are all of you like Lydia?" Parrish asked, drawing everyone's attention back to him. Evelyn turned out, leaning against the wall, as she left a voice mail for Argent.
"Hey, Dad, it's just me. Look, we found another supernatural person, Parrish, the deputy, um, he's fire resistant. I was wondering if you knew anything about what he might be or if there was something in the bestiary. I only have a partial copy, not the entire thing. Call me back. Be safe, OK? Don't try and go after Kate yourself. Love you." Evelyn hung up. She had a habit of not saying bye at the end of phone calls with her father. The last time she told him bye, she was running away from home.
"What's a kanima?" Parrish asked.
"We'll get back to that," Scott said, crouching on the arm of the couch. "Just know that everyone, like us, everyone with some kind of supernatural ability, is on the dead pool."
"But I don't even know what I am," Parrish said.
"Welcome to the club," Evelyn muttered.
"I'm pretty sure they don't care," Derek said.
"How many professional assassins are we talking?" Parrish asked.
"We're starting to lose count," Lydia said.
"But it's still just professionals," Scott asked.
"I don't think Haigh's ever tried anything like this. I think he was taking a chance," Parrish said.
"That means anyone with the dead pool could take a chance," Derek said.
"But if Haigh had it, then who else does? How easy is it to get this thing?" Parrish asked.
"Obviously, pretty easily," Evelyn said, stepping forward.
"And what are you?" Parrish asked.
"Honestly," Evelyn said "that's a very good question at the moment, though I'm late for class," Evelyn said, turning and walking out of the loft. Derek stared after her, wishing that she wouldn't leave.
