Evelyn got up, slipping out of the bed, careful not to wake Derek. We're leaving again aren't we Lexie asked meeting her in the living room a bag already packed. How do you know? Evelyn asked. I just do. Lexie said Beacon Hills needs us again. You're leaving without even saying goodbye Derek said from behind Evelyn. Lex, can you give us a moment Evelyn asked. Yeah, Lexie said, bouncing out of the room. Don't worry, she said we'll be back. She loves you. Derek Evelyn said softly, stepping closer. No, you don't get to try and play this off. Derek said I'm tired of the lies and secrets. Lies, Evelyn asked. Do you forget that I can literally hear when you're lying? Derek asked. And you don't trust me enough to believe that when I'm keeping something from you, I have a good reason, Evelyn asked. Evelyn, you lie like it's the easiest thing in the world Derek said. Well, maybe that's because it was the only way to survive, Evelyn shouted. If you must know, she shouted I was with your sister trying to help her pick out a birthday present Evelyn said. And why should I believe? Derek asked. Why should I believe anything? The last person who lied to me was trying to kill me, he yelled. Evelyn stumbled back. She knew he was just mad that his first instinct was to push her away, but the bad thing was so was hers, and part of her wondered if they had only worked so far because there hadn't been any challenges they had focused on Eli and Lexie. I'm not my aunt, Evelyn said firmly, and I'm not Jenifer. I'm leaving, Evelyn said quietly, the anger leaving her replaced by hurt and sadness at losing him. I'm going back to Beacon Hills. I left a note on the coffee table. Read it when you're ready to know why, Evelyn said. She turned, grabbed her bag, and walked to the hallway where Lexie stood. Come on, Evelyn said, leading the young girl out to the car once again, leaving everything behind. Don't worry, Lexie said we'll come back. I wish I had your optimism, Evelyn whispered, watching the house in her rearview mirror as she drove off. She could feel her heart breaking. Tears started to leak down her cheeks. Maybe maybe he'll forgive me one day for what I have to do, she whispered, but I don't think that we'll ever go back to what we just left. She knew that it would take several days to get to Beacon Hills, but that right now, something was wrong. But then there was something about going back to Beacon Hills, something calming familiar like the town would always pull her back in. It was the only place she'd ever truly felt at home.
