Evelyn stood beside Allison as they talked to her father on the phone in the animal clinic. "We have two problems." Deaton said, "The lichen is not a cure. It'll wear off in a matter of days. Until it does, the Oni won't go after Stiles. I hope." Deaton said, "Eichen House has an unusual history. It might not be all that safe for the Oni there as well."
"What's the second problem?" Argent asked.
"I met with your contacts in Japan. The yakuza boss you saw killed by the Oni never found the scroll." Deaton said, "The schugendo scroll the schugendo were ancient mystics in Japan."
"The scroll has a way to excise the Oni," Argent said.
"OK, we need to find that scroll," Scott said.
"And I did get a name of the man who last purchased it," Deaton said, "Kincaid."
"He was with Katashi." Allison said, "he was the one who met with Issac."
"Sounds like Katashi wanted the scroll for himself," Deaton said.
"Stlinski's already been all over his personal things, and a paranoid like Katashi would keep it close," Argent said.
"What does the scroll look like?" Allison asked.
"Why?" Evelyn questioned.
"I have an idea," the youngest Argent said as Deaton turned around and grabbed something from the drawers behind him.
"Like this," he said, "it could be any size."
"Could it be smaller?" Allison asked.
"How small?" Deaton questioned.
"Small enough to fit into a prosthetic pinkie," Evelyn said, realizing what her sister had already figured out.
"It's possible," Deaton said. "Evelyn, while the others go to look for the scroll, I have something else to ask of you," Deaton said.
"What is it?" Evelyn asked.
"I want you to get into eichen house," he said.
"You what," Argent said over the phone. He knew it was dangerous, but he didn't know that Evelyn was probably more dangerous than most of the patients in the mental institution.
Evelyn said, "I'll need to call Marin, but I should be able to get in."
"Wait," Allison said, "you said eichen wasn't safe for the Oni. How is it safe for her?"
"It's not," Evelyn said, "but it's a lot safer for someone like me than for Stiles or Malia." She glared at Deaton when she mentioned Malia. She knew who Malia was, and because of the young werecoyote connection to the Hales, Evelyn was instinctively protective of her.
"That was not my fault," Deaton said.
"We should have helped," Evelyn said. She knew she could get through eichen, but it was because she had the training and the connections to get in and out.
"Right now, we need to focus on Stiles," Deaton said. Evelyn nodded, turning and walking away, ignoring her father's protests coming through the phone. He was clearly worried about her going to Eichen, but she'd been to worse places before.
Evelyn pulled up to the abandoned building she had arranged to meet Marin. There, she knew that the Druid now worked at eichen and could get her into the building. Evelyn slipped out of her car, leaning against the hood as she waited for Marin to show. "So you need to get into eichen," the Druid said, walking up.
"I know you work there and that you can get me in," Evelyn said.
"I could lose my job," Marin said. Evelyn sighed.
"I was hoping I wouldn't have to do this, but you owe me," she said. "Since Stiles went in, they've tightened security, so I can't risk sneaking in myself and getting caught," Evelyn said, playing with the cuff of her leather jacket. Since she didn't have work that day, she had opted for a more comfortable green fitted tank, leather jacket, black jeans, and leather knee-high boots.
"Fine," Marin said, leaning against the hood of the car next to Evelyn. "Come by at sunset, and I'll let you in," she said, standing up and walking away.
"Thank you," Evelyn shouted after her.
"What do you mean you don't know where he is?" Evelyn asked Morrell, "You were supposed to watch him." She had arrived at Eichen house at sunset like she had been told, but when Marin brought her to the room Stiles was supposed to be in, they found he was missing. "Malia's gone as well." She said they were in danger. She could feel it. "We need to find them now without letting anyone else know," Evelyn said, taking off through the hallway. Evelyn found herself at the door to the basement. She knew that Malia and Stiles were inside. She could hear shouting from inside. "Stiles!" Evelyn screamed, "Stiles! Malia! Can you hear me?" "Stiles, don't stop fighting. I'll find a way in Stiles, just please." Suddenly, the shouting inside stopped. "Stiles," Evelyn called again. The door swung open, knocking Evelyn back. She jumped up. "Stiles!" she shouted, jumping up.
"You can only save one, " the nogitsune said. "She won't survive in there for long; you know that." Evelyn looked at Stiles one last time before running into the basement to Malia.
"Malia," she said softly.
"Evelyn," she muttered, "where's Stiles?"
"He's He's gone, Malia," she said, untying the young werecoyote, "but I'm going to find him. We'll save him."
Evelyn walked into her apartment, looking around. Something was out of place. She reached to her side, grabbing her gun out of its holster. Lexie was at the clinic with Deaton, but someone was there. Evelyn held the gun up, quickly turning the corner into the living room. She stiffened, seeing a woman sitting on her couch looking at the picture that normally sat on her bedside table. "Arya," she said stiffly, still not lowering the gun.
"Lower your gun," a man said, raising his own and pointing it at Evelyn's head.
"Technically," Evelyn said, "you're in my home, so I have a right to shoot you."
"Severo, lower the weapon. We're not here to fight," Arya said. As soon as the man's gun was holstered, Evelyn put hers away.
"What do you want?" she asked Arya.
"You seem to be acclimating well," Arya said. "Although I doubt they know what you did during those seven years," Arya said.
"Just spit it out, Arya," Evelyn spat. She knew Arya was one of the better hunters to deal with, but she was still dangerous. Evelyn respected the older hunter, knowing that, unlike Gerard, she only killed supernaturals that were deemed a threat. Arya had rules and morals, but she still stuck by her beliefs, and Evelyn respected her for that.
"The code," Arya said, "It would be very dangerous if the Argent family were to abandon it."
"Are you threatening my family now?" Evelyn growled, stepping closer.
"It's not a threat," Arya said. "It's just a reminder of what happens when hunters lose their honor." The hunter stood up and walked toward the door.
"Maybe it's you who has no honor, Arya," Evelyn said as Severo followed his mother out.
