Evelyn pulled into the cemetery. She knew it was stupid; it was an open area hard to defend, but she needed to see it. To see where her aunt lay not because she needed to see the monster she had become destroyed, no because she was still haunted by the woman she was the Kate Argent, who had been her best friend, who had been kind and curious, who could have easily helped a supernatural as hurt them. Evelyn knelt down in front of the headstone, placing a kiss on top of it. "If only I had spoken up sooner," she whispered, "and listened to my gut about Gerard. Would you have stayed kind and caring? Would the Hales still be alive?" Evelyn wondered. She blamed Gerard and Kate for the fire, but most of all, she blamed herself for not noticing how much they had changed and how they had become something else. She lived with Kate and had forgiven Gerard for so much. "Would Talia still be alive?" She choked out, looking down at a small ring the alpha had given her. A simple sterling silver band with rubies and sapphires inset into the symbol on top of a triskelion that merged into a fleur-de-lis was slipped on her right middle finger. Evelyn spun around as she heard a twig snap behind her. Grasping her dagger behind her back, she looked for who was there.

"It's just me," Argent said, stepping into view, his hands raised in surrender. Evelyn relaxed slightly at the sight of him; at least he wasn't there to kill her. "I should have listened to you," he whispered. Evelyn just stood there, shocked that he would so quickly admit his wrongs. The man she had grown up with, the man who had raised her, had been stuck in his ways, desperately clutching to his belief in the code, and now that whole world was crumbling down around him. "Evelyn, please say something," he begged after a minute. Suddenly, anger filled her.

"Say something," she spat, venom filling her voice. "You want me to say something? How about that? I trusted you, trusted you to at least listen and maybe take my side; you're supposed to be my father, mine; you wouldn't have done this to Allison."

"That's different. I've learned from my mistakes," Argent said.

"Oh yeah," Evelyn shouted. "I forgot I'm a mistake, the daughter you never meant to have." As soon as the words were out of her mouth, she regretted them but couldn't take them back; it was too late.

"That's not what I meant," he said, stepping closer.

"Why am I different?" Evelyn whispered as Argent reached out, pulling her tight against him hugging her as if, at any moment, she might run away again.

"You're not, he muttered. It's my fault all of this. It's my fault." He doesn't know just how different I am, Evelyn thought. He doesn't know what I've done these past few years, what she'd done to survive.
