Hallucinations

Evelyn walked around the classroom, putting papers on each desk. She was passing out an assignment that she had graded the night before with Lexie in her lap and Allison bouncing into the room every few minutes to ask about her own English homework. It was ironic the whole pack had decided that she had taken over Jennifer's job. Issac thought it was especially funny knowing about her connection to Derek, even if she wouldn't admit it. She smiled at the thought of the pack. The teens had become important to her, almost like her extended family, Melissa and Sherrif Stlinski. After the fire, Evelyn had sworn never to let anyone in again and never to care again, but somehow, the teens Allison's friends made her break that promise. While the idea of having people who she cared about in her life once more terrified Evelyn, it was also comforting she didn't have to worry about Lexie as much. There was a sense of comfort knowing that someone was there if she needed something, knowing that she wasn't alone like she had been for the last six years. She had her father and Melissa McCall constantly checking up on her and helping to care for Lexie; they were both enamored with the little girl. "Evelyn!" she heard someone shout as her classroom door slammed open. She looked up to see Allison, Lydia Scott, and Stiles rushing into the room. The door slammed closed behind them. Evelyn looked at the four teens, confused.

"Someone want to tell me why you four look like you have seen a ghost?" she asked. Allison paled.

"Those aren't real right," she said.

"No, not as far as I know," Evelyn said. "Now, what is going on?"

"These three have been hallucinating," Lydia said, pointing at Scott Stiles and Allison smirking slightly. Evelyn sighed, looking up at the ceiling.

"I told Deaton it was too risky," she muttered.

"What," Stiles asked, "What is going on?"

"What you did to find the nematon to find our parents." Evelyn said, "A thing like that has side effects. What exactly are you seeing?" She asked. Allison looked down, knowing how complicated Evelyn's relationship had been with their aunt and that what had really broken her was Kate's betrayal. Evelyn had been even closer to Kate than Allison was.

"I'm having trouble determining whether I'm awake or asleep," Stiles said. "Scott's having control issues," Stiles continued.

"And Allison?" Evelyn asked. All four of the teens looked at their shoes.

"She's seeing Kate," Lydia suddenly blurted out; a look of concern immediately appeared on the four teens' faces. Evelyn froze at the mention of her aunt, the woman she had once loved and trusted, the woman who, no matter how much she tried, Evelyn couldn't quite hate as much as she felt she should.

"Okay, look, until we find out more, everyone watches each other. I can help you at school, but in other places," Evelyn said, "don't go anywhere alone."

 "We know that," Scott growled.

"Scott," Evelyn said softly as Stiles opened his mouth to comment. "I know you're frustrated, but right now, you need to focus on school and being normal kids for right now. Focus on getting better." Evelyn told the teens now, all of you go on, or you will be late for class. Evelyn sighed as the four teens left the class. Her hand lifted up almost of its own accord, toying with the locket around her neck, an old habit. She swept the locket back and forth across its little chain, her mind swimming with memories memories of Kate, the ones she wished she could forget back when Kate hadn't been a monster but Evelyn's best friend and confidante before Gerard had turned her into a monster.

"Ms. Argent," someone called out. Evelyn jumped at the sudden noise and turned to see one of her students, a skinny young teen named Tessa Lawrence. She was holding her paper that Evelyn had just graded. "Are you okay?" she asked.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine," Evelyn said. "Did you need help with something?" she asked the teen.

"Yes, I was wondering if you could explain the mistakes I made here," Tessa asks. Evelyn nods quickly, spending the next few minutes reviewing the paper with the student. Half her mind is still on Allison and her hallucinations. She knew it had to be hard to see Kate everywhere for Allison to second guess whether she'd made the right decision.
