There's someone I want you to meet Derek said as they drove over the border into South America. In South America, Evelyn asked, smiling. She glanced back to see Lexie asleep in the back seat. Yes, Derek said, his voice serious. Derek, what's going on? Evelyn asked. You'll meet him in a little while Derek said. Him Evelyn wondered what was Derek hiding.

Evelyn looked up as Derek stopped the car. Derek, what's in there she asked, seeing a small house in front of them. They were at the edge of the territory of Cora's pack. Evelyn knew that, but Derek seemed so tense like he had a secret he'd never told anyone before. Derek Evelyn said whatever it is, I'm not going to judge you if that's what you're worried about. Derek, someone called. They looked up to see Cora approaching. She held a young child with dark curly hair. Derek stepped out of the car. Dada, the little boy, called, reaching out for Derek. Oh, Evelyn realized the secret wasn't a what but a who—a little boy. Evelyn got out as Cora handed the boy to Derek. Cora's face changed. She looked between Evelyn and Derek I'll take Lexie while you two talk she said. Evelyn nodded, and Cora walked to the backseat. So Evelyn said you have a kid. Yeah, Derek said his name is Eli. Well, hello, Eli, Evelyn said, holding her hand out to the little boy. He just giggled, grabbing it and playing with her fingers. Evelyn smiled. He was so cute. Derek looked over at her, relieved he wasn't sure what he had expected, but it wasn't. This wasn't both of them just accepting each other; he'd never told anyone except Cora about Eli. Not even Peter knew. Cora only knew because Eli's mother had come to them while he and Peter were staying with her. He was only a few months old. While Derek didn't get down here often, he did call Eli just about every day, which is how he knew him on sight. He has your eyes, Evelyn whispered, breaking Derek out of his thoughts. He watched her let Eli play with her fingers, even allowing him to twirl the small ring on her index finger. A ring his mother had given her.

Evelyn leaned over the table in the living room, cleaning off the table. It had been six months since they had arrived in South America. Lexie adored Eli, carrying him around everywhere. She called him her little wolf. The young girl was slowly becoming aware of the supernatural world around her. Evelyn had learned that Eli's mother had died giving birth to him. Derek came up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist. The kids are asleep, he murmured against her neck. I still have to clean up from you deciding it was a good idea to teach the seven-year-old how to make elephant toothpaste, Evelyn said. Well, I could help you with that Derek said, or he whispered, kissing the side of her neck. No, no, Evelyn said, turning around to face him. She placed a hand on his chest. Your sister is coming over for dinner I think she would appreciate to not step on elephant toothpaste with every step. Derek leaned down, capturing her lips with his. Evelyn looped her free arm around his neck, drawing him closer. They both knew that this couldn't last forever. Sooner or later, something would happen; one of them would be needed back in Beacon Hills. The family they had built would fall apart, but right now, in this moment, everything was perfect. I wish we could just stay here forever, Evelyn whispered as they pulled apart. Maybe we can, Derek said as Evelyn laid her head on his chest. He cradled her head, threading his fingers through her hair. He stepped away, walking over to the small radio in the corner of the room. Turning it on, he turned the dial until he found a song he liked. I still have to clean the room Evelyn said. Dance with me, Derek said, holding his hand out to hand to her. Evelyn looked at him, smiling. She shook her head but took his hand. Derek pulled her back against him, holding one of her hands in his while his other arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her close. Evelyn rested her free hand on Derek's shoulder. She laid her head on his chest, and the two of them swayed gently to the music. What is it? Derek asked as Evelyn chuckled slightly. Nothing, just Stiles doing something stupid again. Derek chuckled. We're several thousand miles away, and you can still tell when Stiles is doing something stupid, he asked. Well, it's kind of a constant state for him, so it's a familiar feeling now when Lydia gets in trouble, I'll worry, Evelyn said. Sometimes I think Lydia's the only one with any brains out of that group Derek said. Are we seriously talking about the pack right now? Evelyn asked, laughing. Derek laughed. It's kind of inevitable, isn't it? He said. Mommy Lexie shouted, running into the room. Evelyn groaned, looking up at the ceiling. They never sleep long, do they? She asked. Nope, Derek said. Evelyn turned around. Hey baby she said, crouching down to Lexie's height. She just wanted this to last forever, to stay cocooned here, away from the world where Lexie had a father, and she had Derek and Eli, where she had a happy family and could pretend the world wasn't dangerous, and she wasn't an Argent, and he wasn't a Hale.
