Evelyn walked into her classroom. She was still exhausted from the night before, but she leaned back against her desk and closed her eyes resting. "You know you probably should have stayed home," Derek said, startling her. Evelyn jumped up, stumbling slightly from the exhaustion. Derek caught her, pulling her close against his chest. He hoped beyond reason that he was wrong that Stiles wasn't the nogitsune. Evelyn had gotten attached to the Stlinski boy in the last few weeks he had seen that last night. If he was being honest with himself, Derek had developed a fondness for him over the year that they had known each other. Stiles had a habit of doing that. He grew on you and became a part of your family. Derek wasn't sure that Evelyn could handle losing anyone else or that he could. He knew that Evelyn still visited Kate's grave regularly, something he was sure she kept from everyone else, but something in an odd way, he understood she wasn't mourning the Kate Argent that had killed his family but her aunt, the woman who had loved her he had felt the same way after killing Peter the only difference Peter came back from the dead and joined him Kate was dead and if she were alive she probably would try to kill them.

"I had to come in. I can't just sit at home and wait for everything to fall apart, wait to lose someone," Evelyn said.

"You're not going to lose someone," Derek told her, resting his chin against the top of her head. "I p," he started to say.

"No, don't," Evelyn whispered, tilting her head to look up at him. Her expression told him she already knew she already knew that Stiles was the nogitsune. She just wasn't willing to accept it yet. "Don't promise me something you can't keep in this world, our world. You can't promise me that you can't promise that we won't lose people." Derek leaned down, capturing her lips with his.

"I will promise you this," he whispered as they pulled away. "I promise that whatever happens, I'll be right here with you." Evelyn nodded, leaning against Derek's chest.

"I should get ready for class," she whispered. Derek hummed in agreement. He pulled away.

"We're going to find the nogitsune and defeat it." He added, "We'll get through this."

"Are you trying to convince me or yourself?" Evelyn asked.

"I don't know," Derek whispered. Evelyn nodded. Derek placed a quick kiss on her temple before turning and leaving the room. He needed to find Kira to discover what happened in the substation.

Evelyn walked into the hospital to check on Stiles. Lexie had begged her to go see him. As she entered, she saw Scott and Derek running down the hallway. Something was wrong. She turned to look at Lexie. Whatever was going on, she had to trust Derek and Scott for the moment. Lexie had to be her priority. She walked to the door of the viewing room just as it opened; the doctor stepped out. Melissa and Sherrif Stlinski were inside, pure sadness on their faces. "I think you need a hug," Lexie said, walking into the room and over to the sheriff. She wrapped her little arms around him tightly. Stlinski smiled sadly, hugging her back suddenly. The power flickered. Evelyn picked Lexie up as they all looked around the room.

"What was that?" Melissa asked.

"Where's my son?" Stlinski said, looking through the window to see Stiles was gone. Suddenly, Evelyn felt a panic unlike any other. Allison was in trouble.

"Stay here," she told Melissa, setting Lexie down and rushing out of the room, Stlinski close behind. Evelyn rushed outside to see a power line loose swinging in the air. She looked up to see Allison and Issac standing right at the edge of the expanding puddle of electrified water. "Allison!" she yelled, causing her sister to look up startled. Issac looked at Allison, then at Evelyn, then at the water. He realized the problem and shoved Allison out of the way onto the grass, but he couldn't move fast enough himself, and he was electrified. "Issac!" Evelyn yelled, rushing forward as the power line swung through the air. She ignored the danger and dove for the young beta. Evelyn ducked as the power line swung her way once more, but it bounced off as if it had connected with something. She ignored it, focusing instead on trying to heal Issac. She knew she wouldn't be able to do much. The burns were bad. Evelyn watched as Kira absorbed the electricity. Derek raced over to her.

"Issac," he whispered.

"He's not breathing," Evelyn whispered.

"Scott, He's not breathing," Derek shouted. Evelyn focused on Issac, who choked back to life but stayed unconscious. He was quickly put on a stretcher and wheeled into the hospital. Derek helped Evelyn up.

"Lexie," she gasped, darting into the hospital to find the young girl behind the nurses' station sitting on Melissa's phone, happily playing a game of angry birds. Evelyn sighed with relief, sweeping the girl into her arms as Derek rounded the corner and came up behind her. He relaxed slightly, seeing that she was safe and Lexie was completely fine, unaware of the chaos going on around her.

"You brought her here," someone snapped. Evelyn looked up to see Marcus standing in the middle of the room. She tensed, shifting so that she was mostly between Lexie and Marcus.

"I came to see Uncle Sti." Lexie said happily, "Can we see him now she asked

"no, Uncle Sti is sick right now. He's not feeling up to visiting, maybe later," Evelyn told her.

"Der!" Lexie squealed, noticing Derek approaching. One of the things the pack found most adorable about her was the lisp she had, which led to some creative nicknames.

"Look, Marcus," Evelyn said, handing a now very insistent Lexie off to Derek, who smiled and bounced her up and down. "I don't need to explain myself to you when you choose to leave. You lost the right to be involved in her life, and you haven't shown me any reason why I should let you back in." Evelyn turned, grabbed Derek's free hand, and walked off.

"So that's Marcus?" Derek asked once they were far enough away he'd heard about the deputy from other members of the pack. "Yeah," Evelyn said, "that's Marcus." Derek stopped pulling her back as she tried to continue to storm out.

"Are you OK?" he asked softly to avoid those around them hearing him. Evelyn froze, staring forward at the wall in front of her instead of turning to face him.

"I have to be OK," she said before walking forward again. Derek sighed but followed her. He really wished she would let him in, but she was still closed off, afraid of being hurt.
