"What did he mean by what really happened that night?" Argent asked Evelyn as they sat in her living room.
"I don't know," Evelyn said, shaking her head. Argent looked at her, confused. He knew she was lying; he always knew when she was lying, but he wasn't sure why she would lie to him about that night, the night both of their lives had been torn apart.
"I should go lie down. I have class in the morning," Evelyn said, trying to push the memories away. The truth was she wasn't sure what had actually happened the night her mother died. She'd spent so long pushing down the memories that they had become warped and changed by stories she had been told, but with Katashi's words, a new memory had surfaced. One she had buried, one that terrified Evelyn. She stood up walking into her room. She laid down on her bed, curling into a ball before falling asleep.
Evelyn woke up a little while later. Looking around, she tried to figure out what had woken her up. And then she felt it, the feeling that had alerted her time and time again these last couple of days that the pack was in danger. She leaped out of bed, reaching for her phone; she dialed Lydia, knowing the banshee would have a better idea of who was missing her own supernatural abilities would tell her. "It's Stiles," Lydia said as she answered the phone.
"I'll be at the sheriff's station in ten minutes," Evelyn said.
"Wait!" Scott shouted on Lydia's end.
"Why wait? What did his dad say?" Lydia asked.
"Umm, I haven't told him yet," Scott said.
"What!" Evelyn shouted. "Scott, it's the coldest night of the year, and Stiles is missing. I think that's the time to tell Stlinski," Evelyn said.
"I can call more people," Scott said. "Derek, Argent, Allison."
"No," Lydia told him. "Evelyn is right. His father needs to know."
"I'll be at the station in ten minutes." Evelyn told them, "If you're not there, then I'll tell Stlinski myself."
Evelyn pulled up to the sheriff's station and was relieved when she noticed Scott's bike outside. She rushed inside to see chaos. Stlinski was directing deputies to different areas as Issac and Scott followed him. Evelyn jogged forward to meet them. Stlinski waved her and the boys into his office. "Is there anything else I should know?" The sheriff asked, "Anything that you can't tell them out there?"
"No," Scott said. Issac shook his head. Stlinski looked at Evelyn. She shook her head, "nothing more than a bad feeling." She said Stlinski didn't know exactly what a bad feeling from her meant. They had decided, with everything going on, that they should figure out what Evelyn was first, trying not to confuse the sheriff any more than they already had.
"Let's go find him," Stlinski said.
"Evelyn," Melissa called. The Argent girl turned to see her jogging through the hospital hallway. "Have you found anything?" she asked.
"No," Evelyn said. "Scott and Derek tracked him to the roof, but he's not there anymore. They're hoping to find some hint up there. We'll find him," Evelyn said, trying to reassure Melissa.
"Are you trying to convince me or yourself?" Melissa asked.
"I'm not quite sure," Evelyn admitted. "Both," she suggested. Melissa nodded as Derek and Scott came walking down the hallway. "What did you find?" Evelyn asked.
"Fear and a lot of stress," Derek said as he came to a stop next to Evelyn. Instinctively, she reached out, grabbing his hand, needing the contact to reassure her that everything would be okay. He looked at her, slightly concerned. She usually didn't reach out when they were in public; even as a kid, she had been hesitant.
"We should split up," Scott said.
"I'll go to the high school," Derek said
"I'll come with you," Evelyn said. Derek nodded.
"I'll go with Stiles's dad," Scott said.
"Call if you find him," Melissa told them as they ran out of the building.
"Are you okay?" Derek asked softly as they pulled up to the school building.
"I'm fine," Evelyn said. We need to find Stiles. That's what's important right now." Suddenly, Derek's phone rang.
"Did you find him?" Derek said, answering the phone. "Lydia thinks he's where he said after a minute. Okay, we're on our way," Derek hung up. Derek started the car. "Lydia thinks he's at Eichen house," he said, driving off toward the mental institution.
"Wait!" Evelyn shouted as they neared, "he's not there." Derek slammed on his brakes.
"How do you know?" He asked.
"I can't explain it; I just know," Evelyn said. Derek nodded, confused, but then he realized something.
"Evelyn, how did you find Lydia?" he asked.
"What?" Evelyn asked.
"The other day with the Oni, how did you find Lydia?" he said.
"I don't know. It was like one moment I was completely and utterly confused, and then I just knew where she was," Evelyn said.
"What were you thinking about?"
"I was just focusing on finding Lydia," Evelyn said. "Oh," she gasped, realizing what Derek was getting at. "You think I can find him if I focus on just him?"
"It's worth a try," Derek said. Evelyn closed her eyes, thinking of Stiles, letting all other thoughts drop away. She slipped into a trance-like state, telling Derek where to go. Suddenly, they found themselves outside the coyote den that Malia had lived in for years.
"He's in there," Evelyn shouted, noticing Melissa and Agent McCall approaching as well. All four of them rushed forward. "Stiles!" Evelyn shouted, crouching behind Melissa as Agent McCall reached into the den. Stiles came out screaming and flailing.
"You're all right, you're all right," Melissa said, pulling him close against her. "Stiles, you're all right," she reassured. Evelyn sighed in relief at the feeling of worry finally disappearing. Derek helped her up, looping an arm around her waist when she sagged against him, realizing how tired she was.
Evelyn sat with Scott, Lydia, and Melissa in the waiting room while Agent McCall stood before them. Derek had walked her inside and then offered to go jumpstart Stiles's jeep, making a joke about him murdering them all for killing his jeep. The small group stood up as Stlinski approached, hoping for good news. "He's sleeping," the sheriff said. "And he's just fine," he said, coming to a stop in front of Scott. "He doesn't remember much; it's a bit like a dream to him. Thank you." Stlinski said to Agent McCall.
"It was that repellent we sprayed in the coyote den to keep other animals out. I couldn't go near it without my eyes watering. It's just a good thing that Stiles mentioned it on the phone," the Agent said.
"Yeah, it was more than that, thank you," Stlinski told him. Agent McCall tried to say something else, but Stlinski interrupted. "McCall, can you shut up, please, and accept my sincerest gratitude?"
"Accepted," McCall said, shaking the sheriff's hand.
"Alright, you two," Melissa said, "you've got school in less than six hours. Go home and get some sleep."
"Okay, Mom," Scott said, hugging her.
"You should probably go home to Evelyn," Melissa told the Argent girl.
"Yeah, you look dead on your feet," Agent McCall commented.
"Wow, thanks," Evelyn muttered. "I should go check on Lexie anyway. A security system and neighbors only do so much when you've got a curious six-year-old."
