Evelyn was walking down the hallway when she heard a loud argument that included Scott and Stiles. "Hey, what's going on here?" she asked, approaching Scott, Stiles, and another student, Liam, maybe.
"Nothing," Scott said a little too quickly.
"OK, Scott Stiles, my classroom now, Liam. It's Liam, right?" she asked. He nodded as Scott and Stiles ducked their head, heading for her classroom. "I think you should probably get to class. I'll see you in fourth period." Liam nodded, walking off. "Now," Evelyn said, walking into her room behind Scott and Stiles. "What exactly is going on?"
"Scott did it," Stiles said, pointing at Scott. Evelyn turned to the young alpha.
"I bit him," Scott blurted out.
"And then he kidnapped him," Stiles offered.
"Stiles helped," Scott said.
Evelyn groaned, "and let me guess, you tried to use Derek's words to try and get him to trust you," she said.
"Uh yeah, it didn't work so well," Scott said.
"Yeah, that's because the only one who can pull off sounding like that is Derek, who I'm going to tell."
"No, no, no," Scott and Stiles shouted.
"OK, OK, fine. I'll wait until tomorrow. He has enough to deal with anyway, but if something goes wrong, you guys call either me or Derek," Evelyn said. "And if you haven't told him by Monday, I'm telling him now: Get to class. You two have missed enough classes."
Evelyn sat on a couch in the McCall living room. Melissa sat next to her. "So he's trying to get custody of Lexie?" She asked. Evelyn nodded. Lexie was bouncing around the room, talking about her concert that she had in a few days. "Can he do that?" Melissa asked Agent McCall as he walked into the room carrying a glass of water.
"It depends," he said.
"Depends on what?" Melissa asked, placing a comforting hand on Evelyn's shoulder.
"Well, on why he's asking the court in the first place and what the status of each parent is, but from what I've heard from both you and Stlinski Evelyn, I'd say you've got the best case you've raised her for most of her life you have a steady income on a job much safer than his and really the only downside to her staying with you would be your lack of family in the immediate area, but you have a whole community that has become your family I mean you even have Stlinski and half the department taking your side over his."
"I have a feeling I have Scott and Stiles to thank for that," Evelyn said. Melissa laughed slightly, shaking her head.
"They are very protective of their friends, aren't they? You should have seen them in the sheriff's station the other day when Deputy Steiner made a comment about how you should be prosecuted for letting Lexie near Derek Hale."
"But I like Der," Lexie said, bouncing over.
"I know you do," Evelyn said, "and I like him too."
"Good," the young blonde said, bouncing away again.
"She has no idea, does she?" Agent McCall said
"no." Evelyn said, "Not in the slightest; she doesn't even remember that he's her father. She was so young that she doesn't remember him."
"You know it's a full moon," Melissa whispered as Agent McCall got up to answer his phone. "Don't you think you should be out with the others?"
"I'll know if they need us," Evelyn said. "Right now, I'm right where I need to be."
Melissa nodded. "If you need anything, we're here." She said. Evelyn nodded. Suddenly, she bolted upright, looking around. "What is it?" Melissa asked as Agent McCall stepped back into the room
"Derek" Evelyn said "he's in trouble I think Stlinski's with him."
"Go," Melissa said, "I'll make excuses for you." Evelyn nodded calmly, heading for the door. She focused on her supernatural connection to Derek, using it to find him. She could feel the expected level of danger for Scott and Stiles during a full moon. She'd had to get used to it since a full moon meant constant danger. Lydia was fine, and that was always the person she worried about. Evelyn looked around as she drove, noticing she was approaching the school. Evelyn sighed. Why did they always have to go to the school at night? She parked, rushing in. "Derek," Evelyn called out.
"Duck," she heard called back across the hallway. Evelyn hit the ground as a tomahawk hit the wall just above where her head had been. She stood up to see Derek restraining the mute while Stlinski pointed a gun at him, reading him his rights.
"A little late, aren't you?" Derek joked.
"I have a bad feeling I'm right on time," Evelyn said, walking towards the two men.
"No," Derek said. "No!" he shouted, "no, Peter, no," Evelyn realized what was about to happen. Lunging forward, she slid behind the mute as Derek shoved Stlinski to the ground. And Peter attacked the mute. Stlinski stood up, pointing his gun at Peter, but all Peter did was shake his head before walking away. "We've learned a better way," Derek said as Evelyn stood up, watching Peter walk away.
"I'm a creature of habit," the older Hale said. Stlinski sighed, lowering his gun.
"Evelyn," Derek gasped, rushing forward.
"What?" Evelyn asked, turning around. She winced, feeling a sharp pain in her leg. She stumbled slightly, leaning against the lockers.
"Your leg," Derek said you're bleeding. Evelyn looked down to see that he was right. She must not have gotten out of the way fast enough because there was a deep gash along her lower leg, the kind you get from a werewolf scratch.
"I'll be fine. It'll take a day or two to heal, but I'll be fine," Evelyn said, trying to put weight back on the leg. Evelyn crumbled forward, pain searing through her body.
Derek caught her, picking her up in his arms. "I need to get her out of here," he said to Stlinski.
The Sherrif nodded. "You'll have to give a statement later," he said, "but right now, take her to Melissa." Evelyn wrapped her arms around Derek's neck, holding on tightly as he carried her out.
