it's never goodbye

Brian looked around him. This was it. He was leaving 1327. He and his girlfriend, Abby, were beginning their new adventure.

It was an emotional day. Saying goodbye to your childhood home is never easy. But they were adults now, an offer they put out for a cosy little place near the campus was accepted, so things were looking good for them.

Dom and Letty helped them pack, there wasn't much. As Letty went to his room one last time before he left, she felt this emptyness within her heart. Brian was looking around the empty room. "You know I remember when we set you around to pick out your new room when we rebuilt this place". Letty said. She could feel the tears rising.

Brian turned to face her. A soft somber smile on his face. "I never imagined being a mom, kid. But now I don't know what I'm going to do without you here, every day". Brian hugged her. He, himself, was close to tears too. "Hey, I'll only be a phone call away, mom. Remember what Dad always says?" Letty smiled at him, a tear slipping down her cheek. "It's never goodbye" they both said. "Abby and I will call when school lets out and we'll be around during the holidays, it'll be like we're not even gone". He assured.

Letty smiled. Her son was a man now. Weiser beyond his years, just like his Dad. "I know you will. Remember, you'll always have a place here". She sniffed.

The two left his room and went down stairs to where they found Dom and Abby saying their farewells. They saw the two come down the stairs. "Remember what I taught you, son". Dom said to Brian. "Be precise in life, never turn your back on family, and call around on Sundays as often as we can". The two men have each other a firm hug.

Abby went to Letty. "Don't worry, Letty. We'll always be looking out for each other". She said as she embraced the older woman. "I know you will, hun. Be safe, we'll see you soon". She said as she let the young woman go. Both parents stood on the porch as the younger couple drove off down the road on to their new adventure.....

Over the next few years, Brian and Abby returned back to 1327 for numerous things. For example, to talk race wars when it was close to the day, Sunday barbecues, to tell Dom and Letty that they were getting married, they even held the wedding in the backyard it was magical.

But perhaps Letty's favourite visit of theirs was when they called to tell them something even better than their engagement.

They arrived one day with Brian's old Toretto shirt similar to his father's one that still was in use to the day. They placed it on the table in front of them and when Letty went to  pick it up, something fell out of it. "Shut the fuck up!" Letty said. "Are you guys being serious right now?" Dom said as he immediately knew what was lying on the table in front of them.

Brian reached into his pocket and pulled out a sonogram. "Baby Toretto, Due next August". Both Toretto parents smiled as they engulfed the young couple in a smothering hug. Congratulations were thrown all round. Life was better than it had ever been.

The day was something of a crossover day. Letty had gone round to see Abby and bring over the rest of the clothes she had kept from when Brian was a Baby, and Brian had gone to see Dom per his request.

He arrived and the usual small talk ensued. "How's Abby?" Dom asked. "We're both stressed, Dad. Our place is just too small, and little man will be here in three months. We just can't find anything big enough that we can afford". He sighed taking a swing of his beer.

Dom took a swing of his own. " Well, that's why I called you over...your mother and I have been thinking of... downsizing". Brian was shocked. His parents had lived here most of their life, as had he. "Really? You're going to sell the house?!" He yelled shocked and slowly tried to process it. "The house is just too damn big. Especially since you moved out. And we've been talking about finishing our honeymoon. Doing some more travelling together".

"Wow, so did you find a good buyer?" Brian asked. "Well, hopefully. Whaddya say son?" Brian choked on his beer. "W...what?" He coughed. "You've got a kid on the way, we can give you the house as an affordable price for you and you three can be moved in by next month. Whaddya say, son?"

Brian looked his dad in the eye. "Well take it". He said finally.

Brian was hit with a pang of sadness as he watched his parents drive off the following week. But as he had reminded his mother those years ago.  "It's never goodbye" he said aloud.

Abby wrapped her arm around his waist and leaned her ead on his shoulder. "You ok?" She asked. "Yeah....it's just another massive change" Brian said somewhat somberly. "Come on" he said changing his tune. " Let's go Christen the house". He said as he lifted his wife across the new threshold.

It had been three months since that day and Dom and Letty received a letter. "Letty!" Dom called out from their apartment in Mexico. "We've got important news". He said waving a letter from 1327.

Dom began reading aloud. "Welcome to the world, Jason -Dominic- Toretto who can't wait to meet his grandpa Dom and grandma Letty. Love you now and forever, Brian, Abby and Jason".

Dom and Letty embraced each other. "Quickly Dom, let's go meet our grandson". She said as she began looking for the bag of items they had prepared for when the child was born.

Brian brought little Jason around the rooms of 1327. "This is where I used to sleep, your grandma Letty used to read to me and tell me all kinds of amazing stories. Maybe if you ask her, she'll do it for you too whenever they visit. You're going to love them. They were the best parents and I know they'll be the best grandparents to you. One day we can build a car together with your grandpa like he did with me. It's going to be amazing". He rambled.

Abby walked up behind her husband. "He's not even a week old and you've already planned out his car obsession". She laughed. "Oh like you really thought he wouldn't have one anyway. He's got Dominic and Letty Toretto as his grandparents and me and you as his parents. There's no hope for this kid that he doesn't like cars". He laughed. Abby sighed. " You're right" she kissed the baby's delicate head. "You are the luckiest little guy in the world, kid".  She said to the Baby. "You've got the best family that anyone could ask for".

The family of three continued the small tour of the house, before getting the text that the grandparents were on the way.

Brian looked around his small Family. This was all he needed. This was happiest of the fullest.
