If there's one thing (not so) little B was great at, it was being there for his loved ones. When his mother was sick with some form of flu, he helped his dad take great care of her. He even wrote her a get well soon card.
When his dad had (once again) had his beloved charger destroyed, he had spent day and night helping him fix it.
And when people used to 'make fun' of his mother, he would always be telling her, she was the best.
Things seemed to be a little more difficult, however, when it came to his girlfriend. He and Abby were going strong with two years of blissfully wonderful, unique dating under their belts.
She seemed off. Distant. He knew something was up. He also knew that Abby was just like his mother. She didn't like to talk about how she was feeling. So after a bit of thinking, he asked her out for a ride.
She seemed thrilled to go. While they were on the open road, he admired her. In his world...well she was his world. He loved her. More and more with each passing day.
"Nothing, like an open road". He said to her as she leaned her head on his shoulder. "Everything good with you?" He asked with a kiss to the forehead. "When I'm with you ... always, babe".
Brian didn't like to beat around the bush, he was like his mother in that regard. He had to say it as he saw it. "I've noticed you've been a little down, lately. Come to think of it, this is the first time I've seen that beautiful smile in a few days".
Abby sighed. "I guess I always knew you'd notice. You know me better than anyone else. Even my parents". Brian perked up. "Everything good at home?" He asked with a slight concern.
"To be honest....no. my parents have been on my ass for a few days about... certain choices, I've made". She said in a tone unrecognizable from her usually bubbly, fun tone Brian had fallen in love with.
"Like what?" Brian asked. "you're did incredible in school, we're going strong. And our plan for college is nearly complete. What could they possibly be nagging you about".
Abby looked at him. Her eyes looking sad. "Me, Brian. They're being really passive agressive towards me. About our dates, our fighting lessons with your mother.....you". It's like they're disappointed in me. She said. A few tears escaped her eyes.
Brian was no idiot, he knew when strong women cried, shit must be way worse than he thought. He pulled the car up on the side of the road and cut the power.
"Come here". He stated as he pushed his seat back. She climbed on his lap and he wrapped his arms around her figure. "Look at me". He calmly demanded.
"Now... I can only do what you want me to do. So, if you're ready, talk to me. If not, then just hold on and breathe.". He said still embracing her. "I just hate how they don't accept me for me. They never liked how Letty taught us self defense. They always out on a look of disgust when I tell them where you take me on our dates, which by the way, are always the best. It's that kind of stuff where I feel my happiest".
"Do they ever tell you why they don't like it?" Brian asked. "They just say it's not very conventional". She said. "But I never cared. I was too busy having fun. When I asked what was up with the stuff I did....they told me I was disgracing the family name".
"Well....I'm not sure what it's worth. But to me, you are perfect" Brian said. "Too perfect. I never even thought a woman could be this perfect. Someone who's incredibly smart, someone who can keep my dumbass in check, as good as my mother does for my father. Hell I never even thought I could be THIS much in love with a woman. In fact...hold on"
Brian moved the car off onto an empty piece of track. He put the car into a series of donuts. Abby squealing with glee as he came to a stop. He stood out of the car with her and placed her on her two feet.
"To hell what your parents think. You are doing amazing and you said you're happy doing it this way". He took a step back with his hand in his jacket pocket.
"I know we're still young. But hell, I know so much about what I want in life already. I want you, the real and true you. Which is why I've done this". He pointed down on the ground at his donut that his car made.
Abby looked confused but let him continue. "Another word for donuts, is ring" he pulled out a box from his pocket. "As I said, we're still too young. But I ain't too young to promise you. If your parents think your ruining your family's name. Then I promise you mine. Ice always thought you lived up to it better".
He opened the box and inside was a ring. Engraved with the words 'Ride or Die'. "I love you Abby. I promise my name, loyalty and life to you...if you'll accept this now and wait for the time to be right for a real, proper proposal some day". He finished.
Abby stood mouth hanging. That was the greatest speech she had ever heard. And it was so typically them. She began to cry. Brian felt his heart sink. She nodded yes. He looked back. "Ye...yes....of course Brian. That was the sweetest and nicest thing anyone has said to me....ever".
She gripped him like her life depended on it. "One day..." She said. "One day. I can't wait to make you my wife". for the first time they day, she smirked. "Abby Torretto has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?"
Brian smiled too. "The best". He said. "Thank you, Brian. For everything". She said. "Thank you, Abby. For being just perfect". Either that the two lovers just sat in an embrace for a while.
They knew telling her parents when the time came would not be easy. And probably very stressful for Abby, but Brian would be by her side through it all. The rest of their lives began today, and they couldn't wait.
