Richard Edmonds has also been selected to be a part of the mission to Europa. The reason he sounded so solemn on the phone was he thought I would be disappointed I wasn't selected. NASA has yet to reveal the rest of the team to anyone, so this is certainly a nice surprise.

It is nice to know that I won't be alone for this mission. Not that I would be alone, but the idea of spending years with people you don't quite know can be terrifying. What if they don't like me? What if I can't stand them? Knowing Richard will be along for the ride puts me at ease.

I wonder how the rest of the team will fill out. Me and Richard both have advanced degrees in biology and the sciences of life, so I assume some of the other team members will be more experienced in leadership, flying, and engineering.

While I don't know who will be part of will be the mission, I have faith in the mission coordinators that they picked the team.

best suited for the job. Now that I'm aware Richard is amongst the group, I am feeling much more ready to meet the others.

This is the best outcome that could have come from this meeting and one I was not expecting.

It also feels nice to be able to talk to someone about the whole mission. Other than the people planning the mission at NASA I haven't said a word to anyone, firstly because it's confidential and second because I haven't taken the time to tell my family yet. Just talking to Richard about it helped relieve a lot of stress.

Richard also has convinced me to tell my dad about the mission before he leaves in two days. He's right. The longer I hold onto this the worst it's going to be when I do tell him.
