As I feared, we suffered a massive ice quake today, or what we would have considered an ice quake earlier on in the mission. The great beast the Chinese team spoke of lives below the surface of this moon has shown itself today. It is a miracle no one is hurt.

There are a lot of things that I pictured when I took on this mission, but none of them were as absurd as the shock I felt when I saw two great talons emerge from the ice.

The ice quake started early this afternoon and like with the first two quakes panic ensued. This time a massive crack emerged on the ice before I had a chance to look outside Commander Hunt had given the command to evacuate. It was a good call. Moments after I'd put my spacesuit on the base camp at drilling zone three had sank into the ground. My heart sank as it fell down, realizing the photo album my father had gifted me was still there but there was nothing I could do now. It was long gone. At least I still had the necklace.

Despite all the chaos there was no sound. Just as there is no sound in space, no sound could travel between mediums on Europa. Still, you could feel every vibration against the ground.

We had loaded what we could on the Humvee when the great Kaiju finally reached its talons through the ice. The rumbling we felt from the ground sent shivers down my spine. If this was a sci-fi movie there would have been a massive roar at this point, but there was nothing but silence. It also made the whole experience more terrifying.

Perhaps silence was the wrong term. We could hear nothing from the Kaiju or the destruction from the ground imploding, but we could hear our own screams amongst the three of us. My heart felt like it was about to rupture in my chest.

We were able to pull away just before the ice below us crackled. Commander Hunt was driving the Humvee, and he kept turning back to check what was happening behind us. Me and Lee just looked on as the beast pulled itself up from the cracks, revealing the entire body of the beast as it ravaged the rest of the base.

The man who'd been freaking out on the radio was correct. Dragon was not the best description. To me it looked more like an icy blue praying mantis. I didn't get the best look as we continued to speed away, but that was not an issue. We needed to get away from that fucking thing as soon as possible.
