One of the best parts of being out of the lock-in chamber is being able to consume actual food once again. During the lock-in one of the things we were exposed to be the diet we would eat on the Europa mission. To be honest it was not as bad as I expected it would be, but the flavor just simply did not compare to a proper meal. There was just a synthetic taste to a lot of the food, which made a lot of sense considering the food rations from Earth would need to last eleven and a half years.
As a huge fan of bread, I'm very disappointed that due to its tendency to cause crumbs that get into equipment it is one of the foods that are lacking in quality when it comes to space. Still, out of all the sacrifices I will have to make to participate in this mission, losing bread is the least of my concern.
Rereading my previous journal entry about our team's experience in the lock-down chamber I noticed I did not mention Ming Lee at all. To be honest I feel like that's just because I haven't gotten to know him so well yet. He has not caused any inconvenience to my life since we started training camp, but he also hasn't made much of an impression since the first day. I take it that he is a bit of an oddball when it comes to social conversations. When the group was having a bonding moment, it seemed like he would sink into the background.
Moving forward I am going to make an effort to get to know him better. I feel like he has an interesting personality hidden behind that awkward exterior.
I understand I do not have to become best friends with every member on this mission, but I also acknowledge we will be working with each other for eleven years. Even if we would only be conscious for three of those years that would still be an extended period of time.
