Today I got a call from one of my old research partners, Richard Edmonds. The last I heard from him he had moved from Washington D.C. to New York City to take on a lucrative biomedical engineering position. He says he would like to meet for dinner because there is something important, he needs to tell me.

Of course, I accepted, but to be honest I don't know what to expect. I have not heard from Edmonds in years.

Throughout my years of college, I've had far many good lab partners that decided there was something there was something important they needed to tell me. Almost every time it was just them telling me they had a stupid crush on me the entire semester. I never reciprocated.

Ironically, I probably would have reciprocated in Edmonds' case. He truly was a brilliant man. If this dinner was his plan of confessing his long-hidden feelings of love for me, his timing could not be worse. A year ago, it would be a whole different scenario.

I doubted that was why he called. I just hope what he has to say is good news. Based on the tone of his call I have a feeling it might not be, though it is hard to tell. His voice can be quite monotonous.

He always used to tell stories of students falling fast asleep in his class. Until I got to know him, I couldn't imagine sitting through one of his lectures either to be honest. Once you get to know him, he does have a good sense of humor, albeit dry.

We are meeting on Sunday the 27th. Hopefully all goes well.
