It's amazing to see how much a child can grow in sixteen years. Diego is growing a little mustache though. He looks completely different then he did when I left, but I could never forget his face. He's growing into a quite handsome man.
Yesterday I took the time to look at all the photos and videos Diego and Dad sent me. It was like watching him grow up in an instant in front of my eyes. When I left him, he was learning basic reading and math in school, and now he was a part of the robotics team competing in the middle school championships.
In each of the videos he sent me, you could see how excited he was to be able to talk to me. Even as he got older the sparkle never left his eyes. Seeing his face is the first time since I woke up that I feel hopeful again. I had to do my best to put Richard's death away from the front of my mind while I shot a video responding to all the questions and updates, they had sent me over the years.
Dad honestly doesn't look any different than he did when I left. Maybe there are a few more grays on his head, but some of those are probably from all the work he's done about me.
Apparently, he has pushed his love of baseball on Diego and Diego is quite good. I don't know much about baseball, but the home run video they sent is pretty impressive to me.
It makes me feel good that they were so consistent in sending me updates. For every birthday party or milestone there was a video so that I could be a part of it. I was worried that sending me videos would become a chore, but I'm glad they didn't forget about me.
One of my favorite messages was a poem that Diego had written about me. It was so well written. I could not be prouder of him.
