Diego lost another one of his baby teeth yesterday. He was telling me all about the twenty-dollar bill grandpa left for him under the pillow and how he was going to spend it at the local candy store. I would have reminded him that he should be careful with candy because he needs to take care of his grown-up teeth, but I didn't bother. I don't need him to remember me as a nag.

I have to say I was taken back by the fact he said grandpa was the one leaving the money under his pillow. I thought he still believed in the tooth fairy. I did not really know how to feel about it. It's sad to think about some of the childish wonders leaving his life. Still, he's always been a smart boy questioning all the stories about Santa and the easter bunny. Every year he would actually try and stay up all night before Christmas to try to prove that Santa was not real only to fall asleep just before I put the presents from Santa under the tree.

Thinking about how smart he is now makes me wonder how smart he will be when I unfreeze. It will be like talking to an entirely different person. I don't know if I'm ready for that.
