The black has extended to James' neck. The veins on the infected side are practically black. I've noticed I am also experiencing a similar discoloration in my fingertips. After contacting NASA, I have come up with a final solution. We will go into our long naps today. There is a chance that the cryogenic freezer will halt the progression of this strange disease until we make it back to Earth. There scientists can treat us or at least study it.
Entering the cryogenic freezer before launch was risky. There was a reason we'd waited to freeze until when we were steady on course, and we'd unfrozen before maneuvering into Jupiter's orbit. Still, at the rate this was spreading we did not have a choice. We did not have the equipment or personnel to treat this on Europa.
If this disease we've been exposed to is native to Europa, then perhaps it is better we stay on Europa. It is better if it dies with us. However, I made a promise. I must return to Earth. I will look upon my son again.
I have already frozen James. He was too weak to do it on his own. After I write a potential last letter home, I will proceed to freeze myself. If I wake up again, my son will be a senior in high school.
