"I'm not entirely sure why she would dislike you," Sir Leonard told me after I spoke to him about Mrs. Abbott.

On the table between us sat a napkin with a few of the oatmeal raisin cookies that I baked earlier in the morning.

"The reason why she doesn't like Rex or Lionel is obvious, because they are the oldest sons. Especially Rex, since he has the largest claim to the title. But since, no offense, you're a girl, you likely wouldn't inherit anything anyways," he continued.

"Maybe it's because I'm the oldest daughter?" I suggested.

"But why would that really matter...?" Sir Leonard asked, mostly to himself.

He considered it for a few moments, before sitting up straight.

"I think I might know something that has to do with it," he said. "There are some rumors circulating that you might get engaged with the crown prince. Perhaps that's part of the reason why."

"So... Maybe Lady Catherine doesn't like that I'm getting engaged because she wants her daughter to get engaged instead?"

"That's what I think as well," Sir Leonard replied.

"Why would she be so obvious about it though," I complained. "I hope she doesn't stay here for too long. She's so restricting!"

"Landon told me what happened. I'm a little surprised that she would so blatantly treat you and your brothers with disrespect like that."

"Good thing Commander Landon didn't take any of her nonsense."

Sir Leonard nodded in agreement before continuing, "But I'm more surprised that you're taking this engagement with the crown prince so lightly. Have you already heard that rumor somewhere else?"

I forgot about that! I wasn't worried because Corvalia never ends up with the prince anyways... But now that my attitude has changed, does this mean that part of the story will change too?

"Well, it's only expected that I would get engaged to him. Isn't the crown prince around my age? And since the Voltaires are the most influential family besides the imperial family, it makes the most sense that they would want to marry into each other's families."

"But what do you think about it?" Sir Leonard asked, curious. "Are you excited about this engagement?"

I leaned back in my chair, thinking about it.

"I don't know what to think," I admitted. "I guess it all depends on what the crown prince thinks of me."

After all, my main goal is to start a bakery. I don't really care what else happens, as long as nothing gets in my way!

"I'm sure you'll end up meeting him soon, if those rumors end up being true, and they most likely will be."

It would be nice to have connections with the future emperor...
