Zane's POV

We stopped at the base of the mountain of a million steps. We quickly got rid of our vehicles.

I sighed, looking at my now pink gi. I used to enjoy the color pink, but that night when the others laughed changed my view on it.

"Well, our vehicles won't traverse the steps. We'll go the rest of the way on foot," Cole said.

"But this is the mountain of a million steps. Are we not pressed for time?" I asked.

"Then we'll take a shortcut."

Cole climbed the mountain while carrying me.

"Would you prefer it if I carried you?," I asked. I did not want to be a nuisance.

"No, pinky, you're as light as a feather," Cole said. I grumbled. I did not like the nickname pinky.

"Almost there!" Cole said. Soon we reached the top.

We saw the entrance to the tomb. It was already open.

"It looks like Pythor and Lloyd were already here. Perhaps we should investigate," I said.

"Give me a second. Phew. Go on and start without me," Cole said. He looked exhausted.

I went into the tomb and lit a torch. I did not know why, but it seemed familiar. Like I had been there before.

"Huh. Didn't momma snake ever tell them not to draw on the wall?" I heard Cole ask.

"These images describe a legend about one tribe uniting them all," I said.

"Well, those snakes had been at war with each other for centuries."

"Well, it says here once they unite they can find the four silver fangblades that will unleash the great devourer, an evil that will consume all of the land, turning day into night."

"You got all that from those little pictures?"

"You get an entire story from a bunch of symbols," I heard Hebi say.

We both gasped.

"How'd you get here?" Cole asked.

"Same way you did. Did you not think serpentine could climb?"

"I thought you were staying at the bounty with Nya," I said.

"It's honestly funny that you thought I'd stay. Even with Nya trying to babysit me."

I sighed as I looked at the pictures.

"This gives me deep concern. If Pythor and Lloyd are not here, and they unite all the tribes together before Kai and Jay find them-" I began.

"Relax, Zane. They're a bunch of dumb snakes who believe in fairy tales," Cole said.

Hebi began to say something, but I interrupted her.

"Dumb snakes that are capable of hurting people and have no mercy." My voice was laced with rage.

"Where'd that come from?" Cole asked. I wasn't sure.

"I... Do not-" I began, but Cole interrupted me.

"Did you feel that?"

"What?"

"There's something in the ground. Don't move."

All of a sudden a constrictai came out of the ground. He quickly grabbed me, slowly squeezing me to death. I began to panic.

"I've been waiting for you. Pythor sends his regards," he said.

"Did you stay behind just to... Tell us that? Pathetic!" I said. If I was not being strangled I would have kicked his smug little face.

"Look who's calling who pathetic, pinky," he said.

"Only I call him pinky!" Cole yelled before hitting the ground. Hebi cheered. The constrictai quickly went into the ground.

"Zane, go for the rope!" Cole yelled. I grabbed the rope. I heard a yell and turned to see that Cole was gone.

Cole shot out of the ground. The constrictai crawled around him. Cole began to play sensei Wu's flute.

"No!" the constrictai yelled before coming out of the ground and squeezing Cole.

"Zane. Zane," Cole said. I stood there staring. No, no, no. Not again.

"Are you going to just stand there, or are you going to save him?" Hebi asked, bringing me back to reality.

"Ninja go!" I yelled. I quickly did spinjitzu and grabbed the flute. I began playing it when the constrictai grabbed me by the neck.

I tried again, ignoring my blurring vision.

the constrictai screamed in agony as he covered his ears.

"Wrap your head around this!" Cole yelled as he hit him with his scythe.

"Ah. Good one," I said.

"Thanks, but if he was expecting us I think Kai and Jay are walking into a trap. Come on. Let's get out of here."

"Before we go I must ask, Hebi, what were you doing during our fight?"

"Watching you. I would've helped, but you guys didn't even want me to come so..... Yeah," Hebi said. We all glared at her.

"Look, you can glare at me all you want later, but right now we need to save Kai and Jay," she said. We all climbed back out. I hoped we were not to late.
