Rimuru's POV
After waiting for a while, the girls finally returned. Though most of the girls had worn pretty dresses that only a princess would wear in a party, some, like Ciel, prioritised their freedom more than beauty.
Ciel had chosen to wear loose white shirt and black jacket with blue and red patterns on it, and as for her pants, she had chosen jeans. Meanwhile Chloe had not changed her clothes and was still in her iconic white armor, which was famous all across the Cardinal World.
"It seems that everyone is ready. Let me once again welcome you to the Awakening of Gods ceremony." The butler said as a large gate magically appeared behind him. As the gate slowly opened behind him, the only thing that we could see on the other side was a bright light.
Chandra and Arun looked at me and I just nodded in affirmative and passed through the gate followed by Ciel and Chloe and then our subordinates. I couldn't make sure whether Chandra and Arun went into the gate or not, because they at least didn't end up where we were.
"Yo Rimuru! You sure took your sweet time." Guy spoke up. I looked around and saw Veldanava, Velgrynd, Velzard, Lucia and Veldora. They were all seated on seats they were placed in such a manner, that they could see towards the centre of the stadium, of you could even call it that.
"Where are the others?" I ask Guy. I could also see Milim, Leon and Zelanus here, obviously asking with their subordinates. The room which we were in was small. Just barely enough seats were present in our room so that everyone could be seated at once.
"Not really,Ramiris, Ruminas and Luna are yet to arrive." Guy informed me.
"Oh, Rimuru! You finally arrived." Veldanava who was talking with his siblings and wife till now, picked up on my presence and spoke up.
"Yeah.... What is this place?" I ask.
"I am pretty sure your previous world had something like this as well, Right? This is a viewing booth for the Awakening of Gods ceremony. This place is specially for the Cardinal World, so only Gods from the Cardinal World can come here.""Wait, so you will automatically teleport to the booth of your world?" I ask as I suddenly start to understand why Chandra and others had not yet arrived.
"Yes. But why do you ask?" Veldanava asked as he raised his eyebrow. Oh shit! This means Chandra and others are currently in the same booth with Yggdrasil! There's no way they are making it out alive.
"Is it because of those humans?" Guy asked.
"Yeah. I am afraid Yggdrasil will deal with them before it even comes to light that they had been challenged." I voice out my thoughts."You don't need to worry about that, after all..." As soon as his words trailed off, I quickly turned around as I felt something was wrong. Before I could stop him, Guy stabbed me with his hands. As his hands passed through my chest, I could distinctly feel him grab my core. Suddenly, fear gripped me. This fear was different. I wasn't afraid of death. I had already died twice after all. But this fear, it stemmed not from the knowledge of death, but my instincts.
Suddenly, the fear vanished, and a cracking sound could be heard as Guy crushed my core. My eyes went wide, but before I could do anything, Ciel took action. She took out her sword and slashed straight at Guy. Guy tried to block her, but I summoned Despair in my right hand and swung at him from the opposite direction.
I used Despair as a catalyst and devoured his barrier and Ciel's sword managed to slash right through him, cutting his demon core into two. That was the last thing I saw as my vision went dark.
3rd Person POV
In a seperate booth, one designated to the Goddess Yggdrasil, Yggdrasil was the sole person sitting in the room. Yet, despite the fact that none of her subordinates were there, she still had snacks prepared for eleven people. Suddenly, the door to the booth opened, and ten people stepped in.
Seeing that Rimuru was not present, Chandra and Arun quickly put up a barrier around themselves. The others did the same.
"No need to be so tense. It is not our time fight. Atleast not yet. Sit down" Yggdrasil said as she gestured towards the seat in front of them. Though most of them did hesitate, they decided to follow her instructions, seeing as there was no traps set up.
"Who are you?" Arun asked cautiously.
"Who do you think? You have been working hard to defeat me for the past few months, and you don't even know me? What were you planning to do if you don't even know how I look like?""Wait! Does that mean you are Yggdrasil?"
"Yes. The one and only."
Yggdrasil's declaration left everyone perplexed. They were finally face to face with the person who had single handedly led their world to doom.
Yet, in front of her, none of them had the courage to fight her. It wasn't because of how weak and fragile she looked, neither was it because they were entranced by her. The reason they couldn't they couldn't move was something far more simple and basic, instincts.
Now that they were no longer under the control of the system, their instincts had become sharp and all of them were able to understand that the young lady who was sitting in front of them was no less of a monster that Rimuru, whom they had met before.
"I wonder if Rimuru knew I wouldn't bother to kill you here. Or was it just a simple coincidence? I doubt it was a coincidences though." Yggdrasil spoke to no one in particular.
"How did you know that we were trying to kill you?" Samuel, a man belonging to Russia asked. He was, without a doubt, the bulkiest of all in the group, and his physical prowess did not disappoint. Even without magic, he had tempered his body to even lift up cars before becoming a God. Now, he could easily lift a cargo shipping vessel weighing more than 250,000 tonnes without any magic.
"You think I would not realise what is going on in my own world? You must be delusional. The only reason I didn't stop you guys was because I was busy. I had not expected that you guys would modify the system upgrade I have you in such a way." Yggdrasil said with a smirk.
The system that Yggdrasil provided to all the inhabitants of the world to become stronger would update whenever its host would evolve and choose a new job. However, while updating, it would require to take direct information from the supreme authority, that is Yggdrasil. But, of this update was to occur in a place outside the influence of Yggdrasil, it would eventually fail and they became free from the system, allowing them to become Gods.
"Don't get the wrong idea. You might be allowed to call yourself Gods, but unlike is true Gods who fought our way to Godhood, you are merely those who cheated their way to it."
"You don't need to tell us that. We ourselves are aware of it. What's your motive? Why not kill us right now?" Chandra asked cautiously.
"Because it will solve nothing, after all..."
