Mikami Satoru was just an average salary man working in a sort-of-big construction company.
He had climbed a corporate ladder and become a department manager. He got paid a large sum of money monthly, which made his life slightly more comfortable than most salary men. But success had its price, he failed miserably when it came to his love life.
He was in his late 30s but never had a girlfriend throughout his life. Despite his unfortunate circumstance, he didn't give it much attention. Satoru believed in the concept of fate. If his soulmate really existed, fate would find a way, and they would meet eventually.
"I'm back."
"Welcome back. I have prepared a dinner and a bath of warm water for you. Choose as you please."
"Always professional, huh?"
"Kukuku! Of course I am. I will continue to serve you to the best of my ability. I would rather die than let you down, just the thought of it alone scares me."
Satoru shared his condominium with 'Noir', a butler who did a lot of chores in order to make his qualities of life better. That included cleaning, cooking, and filing taxes.
He was quite a strange man, and even the term 'strange' itself might be an understatement when referring to this guy in particular.
Satoru couldn't recall how he met or what inspired him to bring Noir to live under the same roof, but he was really useful around the house. In fact, Noir's contribution played a huge role in Satoru's career advancement.

After taking a bath, he changed into more casual clothes and went to the kitchen where Noir was waiting for him.
The main menu on the table was unadons, Japanese grilled eels served over a bed of steamed rice. Noir wasn't just a good butler; he was an excellent chef as well. He said that he could cook dishes from around the world. Though that talent had yet to be proven since Satoru's usual requests would always revolve around Japanese dishes.
"Come to think of it, tomorrow is your pay day, isn't it?" Satoru said while having dinner. "I don't want to meddle into your personal life since it's none of my business. But I'm just wondering, what did you do with your money?"
Satoru had never seen Noir spending that money before. He didn't spend it on his hobby. He didn't eat outside; in fact, he rarely went outside altogether.
'This is a little suspicious,' Satoru thought. He had known Noir for almost two decades, and he seemed to be a decent man. Although he did snap a few times when things didn't go his way.
'There was a time when I had too much work on my hands. This guy just stormed into my workplace, talked to my boss, and got me a paid vacation.'
Nothing good would come from angering a man like Noir. That fact was crystal clear for everyone who had met him.
"I invested every yen you paid me into your retirement fund," Noir replied. He looked proud of what he did for some reason.
"Oi, oi, oi! Don't you think that's too far?"
"In my humble opinion, I don't think this is enough. Think about it, a Human like you will eventually grow old. You can't just live off of your elderly allowance alone. I intend to give you the best life after years of diligent work."
Noir had always been like this, doing as he pleased to ensure the best for Satoru.
"I have my own savings!"
"Excellent! With our savings combined, your life will be even better!"
"You..." Satoru sighed.
Arguing with Noir when he already set his mind onto something had never worked out the way he wanted.
