"Oh, you two are still around? Quite an enduring bunch, aren't you?" Twilight said as he saw the two kneeling in front of him. These were Louis and Gunther.
They were Luminous's most prominent subordinates, yet they were also aware of this man named Twilight. He was their creator, the one who breathed lives into them.
"You aren't supposed to be here," said Louis. He might be kneeling, but he wasn't at all being respectful. He was usually the calmer one, but consuming Roy changed him.
Even though Twilight was their maker, he still had no right to just assume the role that he had already given to Luminous.
"Are you perhaps regretting the choice you have made?"
"Pardon Louis's blunt words. He's still adapting," said Gunther. "But I did agree with some of his words. Why are you here? You've told us that you won't return."
Twilight had departed from this world a long time ago; in fact, he had died before the fall of Veldanava happened. However, he was still aware of the event from the other side.
Before his departure, Twilight had had a conversation with them. He had told them he wouldn't be back after his own death, and they should treat Luminous, the one who would kill him, as his rightful successor.
He had the Oedipus Complex—but not really though. For the lack of a better word, it might as well be called the Laius Complex.
Oedipus Rex was a tale of tragedy. The trishula Oedipus killed his father (Laius) and married his mother (Jocusta).
In a sense, Twilight thought of himself as Laius. It was his fate to be killed by his own blood. But instead of trying to prevent such an event, he played a part in its success.
He had made sure that his death would be orderly, compiling research documents into one single book and hiding it somewhere safe, leaving behind wills, and distributing all of the treasures he had acquired throughout his life.
He had been killed not long after that, yet he felt nothing but satisfaction.
On another note, although Luminous completed one half of the Oedipus Complex, the marrying-his-mother part of the Oedipus myth hadn't been successful yet.
Funnily enough, it was not for the lack of trying—Lucia just didn't take interest in her in a sexual way, that was quite a surprise since Luminous was beautiful.
And Luminous attempted to perform a dalliance with Hinata and Chronoa also didn't help her case either.
"You are correct. I told both of you I'd never return, but I have no choice but to break the promise."
"Surely you jest. What does having no choice mean?" Louis asked, still not giving up his antagonizing manner toward Twilight.
He held grudges as he recalled that time when Twilight killed him just to prove a point.
Twilight might be his creator, but only Luminous alone was his mistress.
"Relax. I will only be here temporarily. You see, someone of significant importance recruited me. And since we are soon to share the same lineage, I have to help them."
He glanced at the concerned two, and let out a smile. "I'm glad that both of you are dependable to her. For now, I will do my own thing."
Twilight then disappeared as if he was dematerializing. The power that Luminous had recently acquired, 'Yaldabaoth', belonged to him. Twilight and Luminous shared the same soul; it was one of the anomalies regarding her birth.
Practically, the Voice of the World saw them as the same being. When one half was suitable enough to gain a Skill, the other could gain access to it as well.
