"Chloe!"

"Ugh...!"

Shizu had caught her student doing something weird to Shinsha again. What did she do this time? It looked like she was feeding the slime her own magicules.

She explained that a slime needed to absorb magicule on a regular basis to maintain their existence.

So, Chloe chose to sacrifice part of hers to keep Shinsha satisfied.

But let's be honest here, Shizu knew that Chloe was just making an excuse.

"Chloe Aubert."

"..."

For the first time, Shizu felt like she had to set the record straight. She couldn't just let this young girl get the better of her forever.

It was a job for an adult like her to make sure that children wouldn't grow up to be deviants, after all.

Chloe's body tensed up as it was her first time getting the full name treatment.

"I just want us to get along. Slimes remember the taste of what they ate, you know?" Chloe mumbled.

"Since when did you know so much about them?"

As far as the general consensus was concerned, there wasn't much information about slimes.

In most parts of the world, slimes were seen as nothing more than pests. With it being the weakest monster, there was no reason to learn more about them. Even the most hysterical among the scholars around the world wouldn't want to waste the time and resources to study them.

In Shizu's adventurers logbook, she only recorded the taste of the slime, so...

As you could see, the world at large didn't know much about slime's anatomy, nor did they care to learn more.

'So, where did she learn all of that information from. Did she just make it up? No, Chloe isn't that kind of girl.'

"It's just intuition, of course."

"You cannot be serious..." Shizu put her hand on her hips. Her voice was stern as she was about to start lecturing Chloe.

Chloe's eyes widened, and her back straightened. At the same time, Shinsha's antennas also fidgeted from side to side.

Their delightful attitude came from the fact that they could detect something, or someone, that brought them joy.

Shizu, with her trained perception, could feel him arriving as well. But unlike the children, she had a troubled expression.

"Hmm..."

"Shizu-sensei?"

"I'm fine. Nothing to worry about." Shizu let out a small sigh which she kept hidden to herself, not wanting the children to be concerned about her.

A few months had passed since the Founder's Festival ended, but the event of that day, the way that woman proposed to Rimuru, was burned into her mind.

She couldn't help but think about it whenever her mind wasn't occupied.

'I still cannot believe that someone else got to him before me. I only realized what that emotion I felt was when it was too late. Again, I failed.'

Cursed by Ifrit for most of her life, Shizu was struggling to comprehend more mundane emotions, as she had to keep her mental state strengthened all the time.

Love felt like a foreign concept to her. Shizu still remembered her mother, whom she loved dearly, and tried to be that sort of figure in her students' lives.
