Once upon a time, in the era of the High Humans, there existed the Super-Magic Empire ruled by the Sorcerer Emperor Jahil. But Jahil's reign bred rebellions, plaguing with civil wars.

In an attempt to crush an uprising, Jahil had committed a grave mistake that doomed his entire species. He had summoned a Daemon to be his ultimate weapon.

The Daemon had killed every single one of Jahil's enemies. However, there was a little bit of a problem that Jahil lacked the foresight for.

When there was no enemy, Jahil and his faction became the enemies. Daemons that had yet to submit to anyone would live according to their wills, with the slaughtering of the innocent being their favorite hobby.

It went without saying that most of the High Human species got massacred, their souls consumed. Guy, the first Demon Lord who rose from the massacre, had taken over Jahil's nation and made it his personal Pandemonium.

Well, that was until Frost Dragon Velzard challenged him. They had fought to a draw and had since become partners. As a direct result of that fight, the land had been covered entirely in thick layers of snow.

Due to their clash, a large chunk of land had been separated, becoming what was known to this very day as the "Ice Continent".

There hadn't been anyone brave enough to challenge Guy on his own turf since Emperor Rudra all those years ago. That was the case until now, at least. Per Rudra's personal request, Chloe had come to this frozen hell to act Hero-like, and what would be more heroic than fighting with the Demon Lord?

She explained to Hinata that this action, although it could be interpreted as honoring that man's request, was a strategy to naturally build a reputation for the Masked Hero Chronoa.

'People don't get called the best for just one reason, you know? Consistency is also important!'

For it to be considered a success, she had to make sure that Chronoa was well-known even before defeating Veldora. To reach the goal, Chloe had to stand opposed to those the western states deemed to be formidable threats - which meant the Demon Lords were what she was looking for.

«I mean, isn't there an easier choice than this? Wasn't Guy Crimson, the Lord of Darkness, even stronger than Damrada?»

If this was 300 years before the present time, then most of the members that would form the "Ten Great Demon Lords" should already be part of the organization. Newer members such as Leon Cromwell and Clayman weren't involved yet, but there should still be less difficult targets than the Devil himself.

'Unfortunately, he is the best one to fight in order to build our reputation.'

Ramiris was too obscured, and Milim was not in this conversation to begin with. Chloe did not want to be on Rimuru's bad side attacking his daughter. Not to mention that it wasn't a befitting action for a stepmother-to-be.

Carrion and Frey, although they would've become the most infamous among humanity, at this point in time, they were just newbies.

Defeating them wouldn't be enough. The same could be said for Kazalim, who was still one of the Demon Lords. That left Guy Crimson as the target. It was like starting a game at the hardest difficulty, but there wasn't anything they could do about it.

Guy was the undisputed strongest, which was why he was Chloe's target.

"Stop right there! You aren't allowed to go further!" A serious Daemon came out to stop her at the castle's entrance. He was more competent than the Archdaemons Chloe had cut down thus far. Unmistakably, he was a named Demon Peer.
